Hey all! I've had my '22 Lariat Tremor for a few months now and I'm ready to start looking at things I can do to it. An exhaust and tune are a must, but I'm not exactly clear on what the differences are between Ford Performance and Roush. Does anyone have experience with either?

I can't find any info on a Roush tune, but Ford Performance offers one. Not sure they have Carb approval yet for the 22-23 Rangers if that even matters where you are. There are a few options and I'm sure others will chime in with recommendations soon. The exhaust kits are generally produced by Borla or other manufacturers with Ford performance or Roush branding on them.

What are you trying to get out of the truck that a tune and exhaust are a must?

No idea about the Roush tune, but I have the Ford Performance Tune on my 2023 Ranger Lariat. I love the tune, really wakes up the truck, I don't have to drive in Sport mode all of the time. I also love the fact that since I just let a Ford dealer install the tune my factory drive train warranty is intact.

One thing to understand with both tunes alone. Both will lower the PowerTrain Warranty down to 3 years 36,000 miles. Both are Ford Approved. To my understanding these are the ONLY Tunes Approved by Ford.

I should also mention that the Powertrain Warranty still goes off the Original Purchase Date of the vehicle. If you are the second owner this is very important.

With both Tunes you will be required to run Premium Fuel no matter what. That means 91 and up. If you don't like that idea I would recommend Livernoise instead. They will give you multiple tunes including my favorite the Tow Tune which allows you to Tow without changing tunes and still gaining power over stock.

That's my input

This is good info here. One clarification is that Ford Performance did update to support towing. Originally it was not recommended for towing.

Hey, Hoon1gan, your truck looks great! I cannot speak for the Roush tune, and I still have the stock exhaust, but I love the Ford Performance Tune. The shifting is smoother than stock, and the engine really pops when you want it to for, say, getting out of the way of a semi on the freeway, or tooling around on mountain roads. Members have differing opinions on which tune is the best, and some of the other tunes can give you more power or more options, but I think everybody pretty much agrees that the Ford one is a quality product with hardly any issues.

I have both the Ford Performance exhaust and tune on mine. I really like them. I have no experience with either Roush option.

I still think it's technically only if they determine the tune didn't cause the problem. But I think the tune steps in for the first 3yr/36k. But that window between 3yr/36k and 5yr/60k, if they determine it was the tune's fault, they could still deny the warranty claim. But it's way less likely with a Ford accessory catalog part installed by the dealer that they would.

I went with the Ford Tune on my 2023. ntechnic is correct it did really wake the truck up. I went with Borla exhaust, SPD downpipe. The downpipe made it super loud so I had to install an additional resonator from Borla. It did sound great though with just the Borla exhaust.

My guess would be the same thing everyone goes for, more agressive sound and extra power.
Your guess. Exactly.

Without end goals there will be unlimited response possibilities.

Do they plan to add anything else to the vehicle? Tent, topper, toolbox, trailer... Is the plan to lower it and make it a racecar?

In that case, add a down pipe, free flowing exhaust, blow off valve, intake, inner cooler (sp) and get a tune that is customized for your add ins.

Spend money, to make power.
