I installed the JL Audio Stealthbox this weekend and I was wondering if anyone tried it before completing the step where they tell you to drill a hole in the floor of the truck to install the included stud and nut. I'm wondering if installing the stud to hold down the box actually makes a difference in audio quality? I don't really want to drill a hole in the floor if it's not going to provide any benefit other than securing the box.

I put the Aussie Box in mine and did not drill anything. If you are talking about putting it where the storage bin was. Sounds fine to me.

The JL box has a threaded hole in the bottom of the box, the instructions say to drill a hole through the floor pan, install a stud into the box then install a nut from underneath the truck. Considering I live in the northeast thats just a recipe for rust. If people say it provides an improvement in sound quality I'll look into a way to rig something up but otherwise I think the seat does enough to secure it.

You could always try a dynomat on the tub itself? I assume the mounting point is for audio quality and less about someone walking away with it.

Only thing I would do is make sure the thread hole is sound proofed. Then go with it.

I added 10 square feet of sound deadening into the area which was a huge improvement. The only thing I could see is the fastener is to help improve rigidity of the box which will help with the accuracy of the bass.
