Taco are the worst. Even the new ones feel 10 years behind. I can’t understand their popularity. I travel for work so I’ve rented a few new ones and just not great. Nissan is Nissan. I just don’t trust them. And now they’re teamed up with Renault and just no. I had a Jeep. It was a bad time. Went to the diesel Canyon Denali after that. It was a worse time. GM f’ed me in the early 2000’s and I swore never again. All my friends said so much better now. Well no. 35000 and shot transmission and diesel issues. Before the Jeep id owned an older expedition and an 05 f250 I bought in 2010. Both I loved and couldn’t kill. Decide it was time to go back to ford and got the ranger. Even if fords are a little more ugly and all have that damn ford smell they just make a decent vehicle. Perfect no but decent and better than all the others I regularly drive as rentals.
I really enjoy my temor lariat. The seat is a little short. Doesn’t go back far enough. No cooled seats. LED everything but incandescent side market and tail lights. Why? Just a few marks missed. Why I got a canyon to begin with. But ya know it runs. Has damn good power. Looks great after a made a few mods. Can’t fix the seat but I’ve gotten used to it. Sound system is great. All in all I really like the truck for what it is.
Well put Jeff.

Being 10 years behind is the reason.
Have you not read how many members here complain about new technology and how much they hate it?

Great observation, my wife hates all the tech and is sticking with her 2014 Outback. Luckily it only has 59,000 miles but parts are getting old so things will probably start to have trouble.

I caught myself admiring a 70's F150 someone had restored in a parking lot the other day.

My dad had a second gen F series he loved and I wish we still owned that tank.

get your 4g rangers while you can folks... low tech, low maintenance, parts are plentiful, and - the transmission does not learn anything it just shifts gears...

Yes to older vehicles being simpler/easier to maintain...but the updated safety is why I switched to 5g.
I wouldn't switch back to something less safe, even if newer vehicles are far less convenient

Not gonna lie, this whole trend of blown transmissions does worry me about the longevity of my ranger. I really do like the truck, and the safety features are great. They just don't make vehicles like they used to.

Actual update today. Was able to get a hold of my nice corporate person. They are waiting to hear from the dealer to get a full estimate before they agree to pay a percentage of the cost. She thinks approximately 40-50% will be covered which honestly makes me feel a bit better.
Hopefully the service supervisor I've been working with is in the office tomorrow because I miss my truck.
Now for my decisions......I work in mining in rural central Nevada, and live in Truckee CA. I work from home one week and onsite the next (rotation). I need to be able to reliably and safely travel over donner pass and not get stranded in 110 desert heat.....I'm now having doubts about my 5g for the first time ever......
Debating saving a few grand and trading it in for a Toyota or something more reliable. Despite my hatred for their lack of power. My last wrangler had an engine issue I had fixed and it never drove the same after.....and snowballed into more issues. Not looking forward to going through that again......
I was able to get 0% for 84 mo on this truck, but put a fuck ton down so my payment is almost the same as my phone bill....I do not want to loose my 0% and know I will not get something like that ever again.....

Choices..............

thats a tough call. i think i would talk to the service manager man to man bring him a six pack and explain that the transmission working correctly could save your life and you want an honest answer- keep it trust it or trade it and move on. if you keep it I suggest keeping a good kit in the truck at all times of whatever you may need to survive a few days waiting for help.

Yeah I’m planning to have the convo with him next time I go in.
Also I keep a first aid kit 12 pack of water, inflator and tow straps just in case. Got chains for winter, though with my 33s I’ve never had to use them yet.

If you love then truck get it fixed. They fix known issues in reman transmissions. You could get a new truck that you like less, and higher payment, then get tboned. You don’t know what’s coming and it can always be worse.

I'd have confidence in the transmission if it was rebuilt with the redesigned CDF drum.

I'm teasing on that one. I don't know much about the new Toyotas, but I know most new vehicles have some kind of problem.

Whatever you decide, good luck on the 0%. The local Ford dealership has a lot full of vehicles that aren't selling due to interest rate at 7%+, and that's with great credit.

Daily struggles update. Dealer is sending the two scenarios to corporate tomorrow. One is 5500-6000k (full rebuild) other is 7k replacement. Ford gonna decide which and I will likely get 40-50% off. Price includes the full tear down. If it’s just a seal it could be cheaper but mechanic is not to sure since they have 5 trucks in the shop all with the same trans all but one needed full rebuilds. Estimated time start to finish is 6 weeks.

What are you driving now?
I missed it I’m sure, how many miles on your truck?

I never really paid attention to interest in car notes till yesterday. 6.5% and above around here.
My ford garage never keeps many new vehicles on the lot. Down the street the combo dealer has 100s. They do Honda, Jeep, dodge.

Riekart in Columbus on of those huge mega dealers that never budges on price yet sell all kinds used to have a thousand vehicles on the lot. Last time I was by there, they had a few hundred best guess.

Ill run mine a few more years with interest the way it is,
