Below from an article in the Denver post, Rivian RIT, cost $42k to repair, maybe an extreme example the article talks about the rising cost to repair autos since 2018, up 36% and avg repair cost is $5k, and EVs are more expensive than ICE , I was rear ended and damage was minor but it broke the LED tailight which cost $1k without a BLISS module and repair total was $3,600
So consider the avg cost of a new vehicle - nearly $50k , high interest rates with monthly payments avg > $500, rising insurance costs and repair costs. The only thing that remains somewhat inexpensive is gasoline and that has a direct bearing on EV purchase decisions, but harder to justify with rising EV prices. Not a pretty picture for automakers all around, but in particular those heavily invested in EVs - like FoMoCo. What are the odds on Farley making it thru 2025 when some optimistic analysts predict EV sales will be even with ICE . Does Vegas take bets on CEO longevity ?
"The damage was initially deemed relatively minor, and the other driver’s insurer offered him $1,600. The actual cost to fix the bumper at a business certified to repair Rivian vehicles — one of just three in Ohio — was $42,000, roughly half the truck’s selling price. “I expected it to be expensive,” saidApfelstadt, who owns a lighting company, “but it was still a shocking number.” A key reason is that the accident damaged a sleek panel that extends from the truck’s rear to front roof pillars. Repairing and repainting it set off a cascade of pricey work, including removing the interior ceiling material, known as the headliner, and front windshield."
