Below from an article in the Denver post, Rivian RIT, cost $42k to repair, maybe an extreme example the article talks about the rising cost to repair autos since 2018, up 36% and avg repair cost is $5k, and EVs are more expensive than ICE , I was rear ended and damage was minor but it broke the LED tailight which cost $1k without a BLISS module and repair total was $3,600

So consider the avg cost of a new vehicle - nearly $50k , high interest rates with monthly payments avg > $500, rising insurance costs and repair costs. The only thing that remains somewhat inexpensive is gasoline and that has a direct bearing on EV purchase decisions, but harder to justify with rising EV prices. Not a pretty picture for automakers all around, but in particular those heavily invested in EVs - like FoMoCo. What are the odds on Farley making it thru 2025 when some optimistic analysts predict EV sales will be even with ICE . Does Vegas take bets on CEO longevity ?

"The damage was initially deemed relatively minor, and the other driver’s insurer offered him $1,600. The actual cost to fix the bumper at a business certified to repair Rivian vehicles — one of just three in Ohio — was $42,000, roughly half the truck’s selling price. “I expected it to be expensive,” saidApfelstadt, who owns a lighting company, “but it was still a shocking number.” A key reason is that the accident damaged a sleek panel that extends from the truck’s rear to front roof pillars. Repairing and repainting it set off a cascade of pricey work, including removing the interior ceiling material, known as the headliner, and front windshield."

We are being systematically priced out of private auto ownership. And that is simply the start.

?

Complex vehicles are expensive to repair.

Shrug.

Must be a conspiracy.

Depends on the state, and whether your policy is for replacement value vs property value. Florida has hurricanes, and premiums are always on the rise as the hurricane cycles ebb and flows.

My rates in NC have not gone up a great deal, but I have noticed a lot more exclusions... which in reality is a rate increase.

IMO, Ford or any other manufacturer would not be delving into the EV truck market if the gub'ment wasn't telling them to or giving tax breaks.
There has to be an incentive for inn9vation otherwise we would be stuck with horse and buggy still.

If the government hadn't funded many many projects (internet) do you think we would be where we are today? Able to exchange information and ideas across the globe in milliseconds?

IJS, I'm from the government and I'm here to help... ?‍♂

Toyota just published a statement regarding how misguided the US government was regarding EVs.

Just saw an article on yahoo that Ford is dropping base prices of electric F 150's roughly 8 grand.

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/ford-slashes-cost-electric-f-162123913.html?fr=sycsrp_catchall
Yeah I read that earlier too. Since Tesla slashed prices Ford really had no choice but to do the same. Also IF these were selling well there's no way they'd slash prices but instead they'd increase them. They can try and spin it any way they want ("Ford is taking advantage of increased plant capacity, continued work on scaling production and cost, and improving battery raw material costs," ) but these are not selling now like they hoped they would. I think people are finally realizing these are just overpriced golf carts. lol Never mind the cost to replace the batteries once it's out of warranty.
