Most budget guns are boring looking. You only get "sexy" when you get into the 1911's. lol

Most important (I know you know this) is how it feels in your hands. I always go to my local store, try a bunch out then order it online. Me having small hands it's hard to find ones that fit me right that I really like. Glocks feel like I'm holding a brick and to me those are butt ugly. ?
Yep. Thats why I gave my Glock away to my son.

several years back Taurus fired some key folks and in came an exec. that was with Colt. Things improved significantly after. most are made in Florida, Brazil, or Arizona. Some of the things they make are actually top shelf quality. Gun brand snobs will never admit that lol. I am not a fanboy of any brand. However, several very popular brands I will never ever own. Mostly due to the practices of the companies or history of the brands. I wanna remain friends with all so I will not list the brands... Part of what i think shoots the Taurus brand in the foot pun intended is that they make so many different models that its almost silly. If they would stick to say six or seven models I think they could be winners. I do not know anything about the g3 models. But I would suspect if it is an item you would practice with now and then and carry it would be sufficient. A friend of mine is a big fan of the bull brand and we put thousands of rounds through about 5 models with no issues except a sloppy magazine.

Unless it’s an emergency save another couple hundred bucks and get a Glock 43 or 48 or Sig 365. Smith M&P would also be a better pistol.

Jeanie's got a Taurus 9mm she bought back around '83. It's heavy, but also reliable, and she's pretty danged good with it. We've never had it fail to fire.

I have one of the 92 models and its been flawless. heres the part where the brand boys will cringe and flip lol two Beretta 92s in a row, one for me and the girl i was with bought one for her- both had major issues out of the box and had to go back to the manufacturer. They fixed hers just fine, for free of course. Mine they "fixed" and it still had issues. Ended up selling it. an old timer told me to try the pt 92. I scoffed a bit. researched them and got one. Still have it, still runs smooth and silky.

Not at all an emergency.
My son surprised me today with a $200 gift cert. to Tombstone Tactical here in AZ. I figured to try and spend that plus a little more for a reasonably solid but reasonably inexpensive handgun. That's why I was asking.

I may end up trying to get a more better-er holster for my Walther and maybe some ammo.

$200 doesn't go far at the gun store...

Have ya looked at KelTecs? Not the biggest name in the industry but they make pretty good firearms at decent prices!

I own 3 of their P17 in 22LR. 16rd mags.....never had a FTF/FTE. Not a 9mm but 16rds of Federal Punch 22 will hurt bad! They do have a 9mm but I don't have any experience with it!

Those PF9s are pretty good guns. The Sub2000s are good guns too.....except for the triggers......gotta squeeze your butt cheeks to get 'em to fire!

Do any of you know much...or have much, if any experience with the G3-ish series of Taurus handguns?
I know they're inexpensive, and that in the past Taurus has not had a great reputation with their handguns, but supposedly things are looking up for them of late.
I've been thinking of looking into one and was hoping for some practical advice on a budget 9mm.

Thanks in advance!
I've been carrying a taurus g2 for the past 5 or so years with absolutely no issues. Put around 200 rounds a month with it to keep my skills sharp and its been great.

I should add the little Taurus serves not only as my daily concealed carry but also as my open carry while camping, hog hunting, general farm duties etc so it definitely sees use and abuse. The only thing I recommend doing to them is swapping out the combat Tupperware guide rod for a tungsten one.

It's the little things in like that make me happy. I blacked out the laser etching on my Holosun 507 sights, as well as the Olight PL2 mini on my Polymer 80 and the Steamlight TLR7a on my Prodigy. I used AlumaBlack to get the job done. I like how it just subdues the appearance of the logos and doesn't totally black it out.
