I recently installed air intake mods. I am wondering if I need to take the truck in to get a tune up or will the computer notice the extra air getting in.
I have noticed that there is a little more power when starting from a stop and passing.
I did this to help with towing our travel trailer, just wondering if I have to spend the money on a tune.

I have the same thing on my rig. No you do not need a tune after adding these. What they will do though is provide good back positive pressure so when you WOT you most definitely have plenty of air and the response is immediate depending on how long it takes for your turbo to spool up!

There are two control schemes used on modern fuel injected engines; Speed Density and Mass Air Flow.

MAF systems like a Mustang GT have a MAF sensor in the intake and if you change the intake diameter where the sensor is you require a tune otherwise more air will be flowing into the engine than what the MAF sensor is measuring

The speed density system measures manifold absolute pressure, manifold air temperature . Intake changes do not impact these measurements so do not require a tune to run properly. The Ranger uses a speed density system so changing the intake does not impact the ability for the ECU to properly control the engine.

I have that AFE Power air scoop thingy on mine and you most CERTAINLY need a tune for it. Well, . . . . . actually, that's what I keep telling myself so I can talk myself into getting a tune that I don't need.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Wow so that thing really made a difference? I did the K&N filter and called it a day, maybe I will revisit that item.

I'm not sure how big of a difference it makes but I did notice the extra power on the highway passing for sure. I will get a better understanding this weekend as we are traveling with our trailer.
