Dumped windshield fluid into the coolant reservoir

I was so tired I poured windshield fluid into the radiator reservoir. I filled it to the top. .. then I saw the windshield fluid cap. ...I am so stupid. I disonnected the hose on the bottom of the reservoir and drained it all out. I don't have any coolant here. at home. Will this cause a problem If I get some at the dealer tomorrow?

Damn, I was looking at the two reservoirs in my truck and just thinking how easy it would be to make that mistake!

It shouldn’t if you put coolant back in when it’s still warm. Just don’t let it cool down to cold.

If it’s the blue stuff the methanol will boil off fast leaving weak soapy water at best. It’s not likely to hurt anything unless you dumped a gallon or more in it

Mel, draining the reservoir was a good move. I believe you are OK if you refill the coolant reservoir as soon as possible.

Did you have it running - when you did it?
And was it low on fluid (empty?)
It so - it would have sucked washer fluid into the system.

If no- then you did the correct thing and drain it- and will be ok

I always liked science.
I was very eager for science class and experiments.
I probably would have run with it and made observations and submitted the findings here for others to peer review and add to the wiki data base of things to do and not to do.

We put a bunch of wiper fluid in for coolant on one of our work trucks awhile ago and it hasn't blown up yet lol.
