What did you receive in the mail today for your Ranger?

I gave in. Hood dampers. Got tired of banging my head on the front of the Hood every time I opened it to sniff check the oil ?. Darn truck are too short to use a support rod if you're normal height.

Ouch... glad you're saving yourself that headache now. Never had an issue hitting my head but I've had the hood slam down on my hand a few times before. Not fun.

I was wondering about the cables. They look thin for the current but are short that should help. I was looking at the one with the heater but after watching some videos the internal relay eventually fails because it's undersized and on this one it's built into the plug assembly that doesn't cost much to replace. If. Nothing else it will be good to keep phones charged in an emergency.

I've been impressed with it trying to start that 50 year old 3.9 liter straight six. That thing's always been hard to crank but this did it without issue. I hit the boost button and crank until it cuts out. Then give it 30 seconds to reset and crank again. So far I've done 4 sessions like this, with about 10 cranks per session and it works great.

It should be far easier to turn over a modern engine, like the Ranger, and I wouldn't anticipate blowing anything.

Some of those cranking sessions were right at freezing, maybe even 25°, and no issues.

I'll let you know if it ever fails on me, I do keep it in the cab but that doesn't do much for it when we hit -10°. I should have tried it at that temp, it would have been interesting to see if that self-warming things does anything.

I have some Ego batteries and they don't seem to self-heat (I think they're supposed to). When it's alight fluffy snow, I use my leaf blower and if the batteries were outside, they only last a minute. If the batteries were inside, I get more like 5 minutes. Now in the summer, that same battery will o about 15 minutes.

I did leave the prop rod in place, did you? Or did you remove it?

Not terribly exciting, unless a tree is blocking your way.

I got this folding Corona saw for the SwingCases. I'm a huge fan of their normal ones and have used them for all the brush you've seen in Soupie (plus numerous Scion loads before the Ranger).

I have a Stihl and have cut lots of wood over the years. As a teen, my step dad would send me up trees with a chainsaw roped to my belt where I'd cut dead limbs. We'd go through about two cords of wood per winter. As an adult, I did acreage mowing in the Texas summer with lots of brush clearing. Then a few years later, when I was into mountain biking, I'd spend Sundays doing trail work in South Florida and that means cutting loads of Melaleuca trees (they grow a foot a day and were tossed out of planes to dry up the Everglades in the 1940s. Oops! Now they try to curb their growth and use them for biomass generators. Melaleuca is where tea tree oil comes from and when you cut them, it smells like you fell in a bottle of the stuff!

The hand saw makes me more selective and the real work isn't the cutting, it's the hauling off! Thank God for Soupie!

We had professionals trim our 195 year old red oak and they climbed the tree with ropes (no bucket truck) and only used hand saws. That was impressive and they have a great rep here. They even cabled our tree. Now they did have an impressive wood chipper, certainly not manua and a beastl!

Ooh, pretty slick with a lock! Did you know that New Hampshire has absolutley no knife or sword laws? Switch blades are state legal (but still a Federal no-no).

My everyday pruning saws - longer blades than the folder - rusty from sitting up over winter (oil, nah, the next cutting batch will clean that rust right off!).

In the SwingCase and (warning: tangent) I think these shackles my dad gave me from his merchant marine days are now like over $300 each! Who knew? I'm rich - time to get more Ranger stuff! =D

When I was young and dumb, I filled six 50-yard containers with brush from a creek I was clearing. Ah, the glory days of 106° in Dallas, wearing Red Wing boots, long sleeves, Levi's, gloves, hat, safety glasses, ear muffs over ear plugs, and getting in said container to further chop the brush. I nearly blacked out once and when I started seeing in black and white, I figured I better crawl out! That was an intense gig, I'd swap out chains and sharpen 2 or 3 times a day. That little sharpening jig was a pain and if you got one side sharper than the other, get ready for artsy curved cuts! Now I won't go into where chiggers ended up on me, but it was more than just my ankles, despite dusting myself with the carcinogenic Sevin Dust (carbaryl-now they tell me, and the gallons and gallons of Roundup I used in the '80s...).

Think I got it at Lowe's years ago. Use it and saw quite a bit when we're camping to cut fire wood down to size. And, always there in an emergency...

That's right, you've got the fantastic Jayco. We both love it and your floor plan makes so much sense for us.

You may be a worse better influence on us than @AzScorpion! Trailers, brake controllers, axes, adventures, rest and relaxation. =)

But at least your Ranger "add-ons" are perfect for both of you, and your four-footed companions. And add to the quality of your life.
