The Shawshank Redemption

The James Bond series (especially the older ones; personally, I'm a Sean Connery fan - Roger Moore was good, but a little too "neat" in my opinion; Sean had the good mix of rugged and suave)

Saving Private Ryan & The Longest Day for decent portrayals of what the beaches were like on D-Day; I took part in the 50th Anniversary celebrations as a Scout, and it blew my mind how different low-tide and high-tide were; I knew it in theory, by then, but to see it in reality is a whole different level of realization. Also, A Bridge Too Far for Operation Market Garden.
Couldn't have made a better list.

If you're not opposed to watching foreign films, a couple of good French ones are:

Les Intouchables; there is a dubbed English version, but I've no idea how it stands up. I've only watched the original French version.

The guy who plays the younger, inner-city kid in the above, Omar Sy, also stars in the TV series Lupin, based on the book series about a "gentleman thief", Arsène Lupin, written in the early 1900's by Maurice LeBlanc. It's currently on Netflix in the US and in Canada.

Finally, go with the original Taxi series by Luc Besson (NOT the Queen Latifah, NYC-based remake!!); as is usually the case, 1 is the best, 2 is good, and 3 is a stretch.

Anybody like Columbo? I never get tired of it, so I ordered all 7 seasons(24 Columbo movies come with it). Not many other things I enjoy watching these days. :)
Tracy, it's just a guy in a trench coat you like ain't it? ??

We have watched 2 foreign films lately, both great action flicks both Norwegian: The Wave & TROLL, good special effects.

agreed, Sir Sean Connery was the James Bond. I never like pierce bronsin or whatever his name is. he seemed like such a sissy and driving a bmw . pfft... i stopped watching the series after suffering through golden eye and didnt see anything in between that was new until Skyfall with Daniel Craig. He seemed more "Bond" to me.

HBO’s The Last Of Us is absolutely fantastic. Episode 3 had me in tears. I haven’t ever cried during a movie before. I have no words to describe the incredible world building, writing, and acting in this show. Absolutely impeccable

I've been wanting to check that out. My wife's not interested so I'll need to work around that.

My favorite is still the Band of Brothers series. I think they did a great job of bringing the book to the screen.

Band of Brothers is always a must watch. I didn't get into The Pacific as much. A new series Masters of The Air is coming out this spring. And if you like documentaries on bomber crews, The Cold Blue is fantastic. It was released at a theater here in St Louis and one of the guys in the documentary was there. And another B17 pilot who was shot down and ended as a POW was there as well. After the showing, these two outstanding airmen took questions and talked about their experiences.
