I’m kind of a clean freak when it comes to my cars and trucks. I have less then 1k on my Ranger but I’ve taken it on some dirt roads and pulled my son’s Tacoma out of the mud. Things got a little dirty, including the engine compartment. I detailed it today and it’s now more clean then when it was brand new. How’s your engine compartment looking. Who likes keeping it clean?

I have a separate chamois just for that purpose, to wipe down the engine after each wash. Keeping it clean also helps to spot leaks if any develop over the years.

Nicely done! Great looking Deville motor.

What paint did you use for the foam Ranger engine cover? Has the paint started cracking at all?

I used Rustoleum Acrylic Enamel , several light coats, just painted the top. No cracking or peeling after 2000 miles. It doesn't even feel hot after driving so it should hold up. Thinking about painting the tow hooks next.

I painted the Deville valve covers a few years ago when I had to replace the gaskets. I used a heat resistant paint on that one cause it does get hot.

Who doesn't like to give up their secret on keeping your engine clean :p

Seriously folks, don't know what he's using but if you want something similar just wipe the motor down with a clean wet rag and wipe it dry. Get yourself some Meguiars Hyper Dressing, dilute it to the shine and sheen you prefer, spray the engine compartment plastics, shut the hood and let it dwell till dry, come back with a clean micro and do a final wipe down afterwards.

Another great option is Adams In and Out spray.. that’s an aerosol you spray and it give you great results also.

Edit: Here’s a pic of my 15yr old F150 with the process I mentioned, looks familiar. Yes that’s water spots from opening the hood on the radiator cover.

303 is also good used here.
Sold at many auto stores.
Do not use greasy dressings. Will collect dust quickly. Matte finish best.
Cover electronics and clean these by hand later. Aluminum foil is a good option to cover. Molds around items.

I wipe my engine bay down every time I wash any of my vehicles. Takes just a couple minutes and when I open my hood friends and acquaintances are awed by how clean it is.
I don't use any dressing products just a damp rag... :)

do any special percautions need to be made when cleaning inside the engine bay? or can you just pressure wash the whole thing?

I open the hood and give everything a quick spray with the hose every time I wash the truck which is about once a month.
