Hey all,

I’ve been running Icon stage 1 coilovers and rear shocks (love them) for about a year now.I probably off road once every three months, and I’m wondering if I should be upgrading the UCA’s anytime soon? From what I understand, the coilovers came with a 2.5 inch level right out of the box. At the time of install, my mechanic said UCA’s weren’t a necessary upgrade at the moment, but I should probably look at it down the line.

When he installed the coilovers and rear shocks and sent the truck to alignment, I’ve had no issues with it. I also just had the truck serviced and their didn’t seem to be any issue with uneven wear.

Anyone out there running a similar lift without upgrading the UCA’s? Am I risking anything long term without upgrading?

Thanks in advance.

The issues you would run could be eventual binding at the upper ball joint especially since the Icon's have longer travel than OEM. Not likely to be an issue running around town, but could cause an issue depending on how hard you play off road. To be honest though, I wasn't planning on getting upper control arms for my Fox 2.0 system. I only got them because of the group buy that was on here a few months ago and it was at a price i couldn't ignore.

Thanks for the note! Sounds like with my use, it’s not absolutely necessary at this point in time but I do some plans to hit more trips this winter/spring. I think I’ll look into some upgrades, does it matter if I stick with Icon UCA’s or not? Curious if all aftermarket ones are the same, I know some are meant for 3 inch lifts and higher.

Nah you won't need to stick with icon. They're all intended to help fix your geometry with the leveling kits so you should be fine with just about anything.

For what it is worth, I have the Icon Tubular UCA and I have no problems with them. I put them on to get a good geometry and the group buy price was just right. My tremor has a 2" level spacer and 1" diff drop. So I am close to that 3" level @Msfitoy is talking about.

From what I've read on here, the UCAs are the ticket from going from 6.5" front travel to just about 9" (when coupled with extended travel coilovers)
