Yesterday, we had a hitch carrier put onto our SUV so we could use our hitch cargo carrier for a camping trip next week. Last night I put the cargo carrier on and found that it's scrapes the ground coming out of our driveway and that's with nothing in the SUV or on the carrier.

The part that scrapes has a bolt extending down through the frame and out the bottom middle of the cargo basket.

I can take a hacksaw to lop off the extra bolt length sticking out from the nut, but I'm thinking of adding some kind of wood or plastic to the bottom of the cargo carrier to give something to slide on the isn't a nut/bolt.

Any ideas on what material would be good to add for some slide? Where could I get the material on short notice?

Thank you, Jeremy.

Check Out McMaster-Carr online. They have UHMW or other type plastics that come in several shapes and sizes. They also have fast shipping as we usually get items overnight.

That'll do it. I hope. I just ordered a 1.5" x 2" x 1' length block of black "Slippery" UHMW. Hopefully I can bolt that to the bottom of the hitch carrier to give it some slide rather than scrape.

It will help. It's easy to cut and drill. But be careful with the rubbing. Too much binding will stress the hitch of the carrier. It would be best if you could raise the height of the carrier to prevent rubbing, but that will require some work.

Google "hitch riser 2 inch". For $35-$50+, these fix the problem.
