There is this droning aggravating noise constantly coming from under the driver dash.
It is almost always while accelerating. Has this intermittent subtle sound like it's a computer chip processing.
It comes and goes while driving and doesn't really have a rhyme or reason.
It's not very loud; can't hear it while playing music. But when there's no music, it's driving me nuts.
Anyone know what this is?

I could be completely wrong (someone on here correct me if I am) but I don’t think a computer chip makes any noise. Do you mean like the sounds of things such as the hard drive, DVD player, fan, etc. on a desktop PC?

I have a three-hour drive this afternoon and will listen for the droning you’ve mentioned. It might be as simple as the actuator door on your dual zone climate control (if you have it).

A CPU or chip doesn't make noise.

You are thinking of old school hard disk drives, which these trucks do not have.

Coil whine is real in computers, but unsure if we'd have enough of them under high enough power either.

Try recording it.

As we all know, there is one of these hidden under the dash, and it power's multiple accessories.
It's likely the wheel needs a shot of lube, or you may just have a "wheezing" gerbil...the older ones get out of breath rather quickly.

Looks like I'm wasting my time asking in the wrong forum.
Instead of mechanical competency all I've found is attitude and immaturity.
WOW !!!
Well, the "competency" forum is that-a-way-------------->>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>?????

Sorry for the responses, but without a recording or some more specific description/location, it is hard to diagnose or tell you it is maybe normal. You need to realize that you are in a moving vehicle with a running motor that makes many noises that you may or may not be used to. The high pressure fuel pump (HPFP) may be one of them. The injectors or the turbo may also be it. Heck it might even be your tires. Or, heaven forbid, there may be a real issue.

I would not categorize the answers you received as attitude or immaturity. once you are here a while you will find we like to have some fun and a lot of good natured ribbing goes on. along with that a lot of knowledge is also passed around. Just don't rely on the search function, better to use google and include "Ranger5G" in your search.

Could it be gear whine from the transmission while in the lower gears? Mine has that whine.

My friend, if you think that this is “attitude and immaturity” then I suggest you try to avoid some/a lot of the other threads on here, but if you have a well developed sense of humor then you’ll love it here. I have had nothing but great experiences with every member here that i have had the pleasure of interacting with. There is a wealth of knowledge here that you will be hard pressed to find equaled or exceeded anywhere else. Stick around for awhile and you’ll see. But like others have said on here I would almost assume that it the HPFP kicking in. Do you hear it when standing outside of the truck when you unlock/lock your doors?

maybe your gerbil needs an inhaler?
