I'm useless with this forum's search and I'm sure this has been covered many times but ...

I have '22 4X2 XL 101A with a tow package. Nothing else (except carpet). So what do I need to add front tow hooks? Not for off-road recovery but possible snow and ditch (preferably helping others, in cars, that have slid off the road).

It looks like I need the hooks, a different front valence, and some rubber inserts?

I saw this thread but I'm not sure that'll work for me and if that's all I need.

https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/thre...-fact-ford-deleted-the-front-tow-hooks.14683/

I would also like to pull from the rear, is the receiver sufficient? It doesn't seem like that would have enough strength.

Thanks!

I would think the rear receiver is plenty strong enough. Think about all the owners who mount a winch on a receiver platform to slip into the receiver and winch out their trucks, or others, using the rear mount winch. You have six large grade 5 bolts and welded frame nuts holding that hitch platform on.....lot stronger than any tow hook mount and much more robust.

Mine is an xl base with tow package. It came with tow hooks see the pick. However they did not add the receiver. The tow package was a nice to have but still have not used it, and I need to purchase ar receiver.

Are you sure you have tow package? The reason I ask is because the tow package is the reciever along with the 7 pin trailer connection. The front tow hooks are part of it being a 4x4.

I have the 7 pin connector, they just didn't give me the receiver. Being as I have never towed before I was unaware what I was missing. Also, I took the only baseline they hade available with 4x4 and the tow package just so happened to be on the truck.

Really supprised at this, because the main part of the tow package is the hitch which involves a different bumper assembly. Did you buy the truck new? If so was the tow package listed on the window sticker. I wonder if someone/dealer just added the 7 pin plug to a none tow package truck. I really can’t see the factory missing the hitch.

@Big Blue , @P. A. Schilke , so I went to take a pic and then I thought I'll also get one of the sticker that was in the window. After looking it over I am wrong. It did not come with the tow package. I am unsure as to why my memory thought the truck had one. Maybe it was them telling me how much it could tow and then I made the jump from there. There was also some type of connector in the glove box and I thought that was the 7 pin that I take out and use somehow. At any rate my bad.

Hi Kevin,

Understandable to be a bit confused! The glove box connector is for tailgate removal to protect the tailgate lock wiring.

Best,
Phil

That should be everything you, just double check that Ford didn't delete the threaded holes for the hook mount. You can cut the valance with a Dremel and save about $180 if you're up to it. Worst case scenario is you mess up and have to spend the $180 for replacing it anyway.
Great tip on the Dremel. I cut down some carbon fiber kayak paddles last summer, so I'd give it a try (plus it doesn't have to be spot on, so I'm sure that would work fine for me).

Thanks for the awesome idea and about making sure the holes are still there!

Kind of funny to think about holes being gone!
