Yep, I spent too much here. I hang out at VMForums now. It's only slightly more to restore an old complete car than to add goodies to a perfectly built new one.

OK, in all my adult years, after making some teenage and young adult bad decisions, I thought I was pretty logical with my spending habits. Well since joining this darn forum, I have bought all sorts of things for this new Ranger that I have not bought for other trucks!

Soooo, I think I have just lost it. I just ordered and spent almost $100.00 on a set of red replacement tow hooks when the black tow hooks that came with my Ranger are still just like new. So, I spent $100.00 because I like the color red rather than black?

Yup, I have lost it and the rest of you are to blame

When do the Ranger AA meetings start???
Haha, they start RIGHT NOW. Hi Phil_R.
I have a Ranger problem too. I don't get any emails on my order...
Oh, we're talking about mods? Yeah, I have a whole list of them and I don't even have my damn truck yet.
Hey, it's the future, spend that money now before it's worth even less in the future future, lol.

Ok Phil I need to join the AA Ranger 5G Forum too. I purchased blue tow hooks as I like the blue and silver combination. I need help sooner than later. Although I don't think there is really much left to mod on my Ranger. You see how I left that open for more mods. :frown:

There is always something else to mod. How about a solid front axel swap? I saw someone on this forum has done that. Upgrade the engine to a 2.7 ecoboost, or bag it and slam it lol.

Remove existing tow hooks. Buff with steel wool until thoroughly deglossed, washing with detergent soapy water in process. wipe dry, the let get all dry in warm sun. Wipe down with Mineral spirits and lint free cloth until nothing more comes off. Buy 2 cans of top quality red spray paint. Hang the hook with wires & give the tow hooks several light coats, 15 minutes between coats, until you have used up all the paint. Then let dry in sun until very dry to touch. Bake in oven for 2 hrs at 200 degrees. Turn off oven and allow to cool with door ajar. Same metal as the expensive red tow hooks, No heavy waste to dump or recycle!

If I’m going to that much trouble I would powder coat them. Same process really. Just don’t use the oven you cook in!

Still would not be as tough as a powder coated finish, but thanks anyway for the idea.
