Someone should make a map-app that will work with Android Auto and Carplay. No navigation or GPS just a big traditional map that displays on the screen.

So like this except it'd be on screen and you could move it with your fingers:

Reading that fine print that another posted, you are NOT losing Nav. You are loosing a rolling map when no destination is selected.

Hardly a big deal.

Personally, 4 of the last 5 new vehicles I've bought have had built in nav. Never used it, not once.

Between Google maps (you can download maps for when you're out of coverage) and CoTrex (same, offline maps) I've never wanted to use it.

I'm stuck paying for it because they bundle it with options I desire.

The way I read it if you don't pay you'll still get the standard GPS navigation much like factory nav in the current SYNC 3 systems. The actual connected real time services won't work any longer without cellular data.

Geez they really got their hands in everything.
???

Not sure what you mean. You asked for simple feature. I've informed you that it's available. Has been for half a decade. I think Waze might do the same, although they are owned by Google, if you don't like Google maps for some reason.

Not only is this bullsh** but it’s bad. My lady has a Benz.. it’s a 2018/ she also has to pay for the software and also for the emergency services.

To have FORD do this, it’s prolly cause the e cell networks aren’t doing the 3G anymore and it’s gonna cause manufacturing facilities to pay more upfront.

I just cut my cord - or more accurately my Dish subscription, used to be able to switch from Comcast, Dish , Direct TV every 2 yrs to take advantage of new subscriber rates but that became more difficult . Cable companies do rip people off, I sold many millions of IT gear and services to Dish and many of their employees hated working for them, Charlie Ergen is only worth ~ $10B and is known to be ruthless. At least for know I'm happy to be streaming. At one time Dish was rated the worst company to work for - then they somewhat cleaned up their act but stayed in the top 10 worst. They hired a high level person to clean up their image and I distinctly recall him saying the employees had to be all wrong as he personally had worked for several worse companies, what a gem of a hire.

I've never had satellite TV. I currently have YouTubeTV. I hate giving the Googles my money but right now it's the best deal. I don't like opening a streaming app then having to think of something or look up something to watch. I just look at the guide of what's on an pick. I also like to flip between shows...can't do that with stuff in different apps. Guess I have a short attention span.

I'm old enough to remember life before cable TV and when cable TV was 1st being advertised it was said that if you were going to pay for a cable subscription there would be no commercials on cable. Well that certainly turned out to be BS didn't it?
I grew up here in Northern Ohio. It's flat here an TV signals come in clear. As a kid we had maybe six channels. When we'd visit family in Kentucky they would all have cable because of the terrain broadcast signals were crap or non existent. Cable was cheap back then (70's) an they had 20 or 30 channels. The only channels without commercials were "premium channels like HBO. I couldn't wait for cable to come to our area to have more selection. It came AFTER I graduated an left for boot camp.

Ah, this raises my hackles over our GE refrigerator!

Couple of years ago our Amana fridge stopped fridging.

Went and looked at new ones and found a nice GE with features we wanted so we bought it.

6 months later it starts warning about the water filter for the door water. When the time is up, the GE actually stops dispensing water and making ice.

Come to find out that you can't just use the generic water filters like everyone else, nope, you have to get the "authentic" GE filter that has an RFID tag on it at a cool cost of $50 each.

Sorry, I'm not paying $100 a year for the "privilege" of owning a GE.

It came with a bypass filter to use if you didn't have a replacement handy, so I cut up the bypass and grabbed the RFID out of it and taped it into the fridge permanently.

Now I get a warning of "Not Filtered" whenever I use it but I change the filters every 6 months with the much more reasonable generic filters.

Screw you GE. I will NEVER buy another of your products.
GE sold the appliance name to a company in China a while back . No, more GEs for me..

What in the hell does being "woke" have to do with companies putting in place shitty subscription models. You are getting your rants all mixed up bud. Lol
I just assumed he was drunk.
Oopps, sorry. Figured most "high brows" were acquainted with Urban Dictionary definitions to wit: "The ability of someone to become outraged at imagined enemies and create ways to be the victim, even though you're insanely privileged." seems to fit all 4 pages quite well. Lol! !??

so you pay for the features in the price of the car, reflected in higher msrp, then pay to use the features... well if that is the case i bought my last ford. piss on that. and on ford for hosing the customer.

If people actually pay it without revolting, it won't be just Ford.

Every manufacturer will jump on this cash grab.

Though with Ford you may be able to enable some things permanently using ForScan, like enabling Terrain Management on vehicles that didn't come with it. I'm sure Ford will plug this leak if that becomes the case.

Just look at how many companies now have their own streaming service.

Netflix got popular so everyone jumped in the pool, while pulling their content from Netflix so you'd have to subscribe to their service to watch their content.

Video piracy was waning for a while, but now it's back bigger than ever due to this practice.

Ford offers different packages when you order the vehicle . Are we moaning because we did not choose the package which includes "Built-in services" ?
