There's a reason tire shops do not use those kind of plugs anymore.. Spend 20 or 30 bucks and have them put on an inside patch.
Well for the thousands of us that have used these types of plugs for the last 40+ years and have had very little issues, I think he'll be fine especially since there is an active tpms to alert him if the repair is not satisfactory, at that point he can decide to take it to a shop.

eh 3 out of 4 is pretty good still no worries just drive it!
ive used those plugs many times and been fine. it may not be the newest best thing but they work fine. if one plug dont do the trick force feed it two at once. did that on a tractor tire once.

They're gonna mandate these for all of us soon.

No malicious air in them to destroy the spotted owls.

Well that reply suits me just fine except you cannot verify the thousands of us who have used these types of plugs for over 40 years and had very little issues.
It could be a tire repair gimmick to charge you more for having to take the tire off to put an inside patch on. Who knows, unless anybody here is works/worked for a tire shop and can honestly say that's what they were trained to do.

You also used a rotary phone 40 years ago. ? Technology advances and sometimes improvements come with it. ?

That said, in a pinch, those OG plugs will get you home. I personally wouldn't trust them long term, especially if you drive sustained highway speeds. My 0.02..

I have no problem with a trailside plug fix.

But Discount Tire will do a proper patch from the inside for free regardless of where you purchased the tire. I'll spend 30 minutes for a proper fix.
