Hey all,

I recently upgraded to a larger tire (Falken Wildpeaks, 265/70/r17), and absolutely love them - didn't feel the need to go any bigger. I have Icon stage 1 coilovers and rear shocks installed, which has exceeded my expectations with the performance and appearance!

The other day I noticed some rub at full lock turning the wheel right - not on the crash bars, but on the inside of the wheel (rubbing the knuckle/spindle, I think?). It only happens on certain angles and its ever so slight, but I had my wheel/tire place recommend 1/4 inch spacers which have effectively solved that problem.

The guy at the shop mentioned that its a good temporary substitute until I get a better fitting wheel. I am definitely in the market for wheels, but I would prefer to keep the offset only slightly lower than the stock +55, in order to compensate for that quarter inch. I am thinking somewhere along the realm of +35 (which is more than a quarter inch difference).

Am I on the right track here? Currently have the metallic 17" OEM wheels. I actually do like this wheel but if its bad in the long term I would rather just get the new wheels sooner than later. Does this slight difference put that much more of a stress on the vehicle? I may be reading into it too much lol. Any advice would be appreciated.

From .25” up to 1.5” don’t lose any sleep on quality wheel spacers. They are just fine and dandy (as far as safety, longevity, etc).

I have 265 70 17 on my truck and right now the suspension is totally stock. I have not had any rubbing any place. i do not baby the truck and it spends a lot of time off road. i noticed that the wild peak overall diameter for that size is 31.89. I think the bfg i run are just tiny bit less at 31.65. maybe that small difference is enough to make some contact. can you post a picture of where it rubs the rim or tire?

Thanks so much for your input - that falls in line with what I am seeing as well.

For sure man I definitely went with this size because I read that no one was having any rubbing problems. Its a bit dark outside at the moment but will do my best to snap a pic and report back here shortly. It was really only on a downslope and full turn to the right.

Get in there with a flashlight and find out where it's rubbing, there will be a " witness " mark. Mine rubs just a hair on the frame at full lock, there is nothing sharp there and we don't have rust issues here so I'm of the " I don't give a shit " solution. I am running a slightly bigger diameter tire than yours ( 32.65 diameter ) on the FP fox 2.0 setup. If it is rubbing on the knuckle I'd 1/4" spacer that with a quickness. IIRC these are the proper spacers for our trucks, you'll only NEED two and longer lugs won't be require either. Double check torque a cople of times the first couple of days and then don't worry much.

Thanks for your response. The thing is i already had the 1/4 inch spacers installed as he had them in stock. I honestly didn’t think much of it but probably should have checked to make sure they were the right ones. He has seen my truck many times so I figured he knew what I needed.
Here is a picture of where I am rubbing. It turns out that it’s actually the inside of the wheel, along the frame/maybe lower control arm? Maybe you can help tell me what part that is. To be honest, I’m with you as it seems to be a very smooth part of the frame - nothing sharp.

I'm not seeing a witness mark on the control arm anywhere. You sure it's rubbing there and not on the frame on the tire towards the rear of the truck rather than the front ( like the lower C arm pictured ). Possibly the crash bar covers ( plastic ) are hanging out a bit and catching.

I went back out to check again, and I think you’re right about rubbing the plastic on the crash bar. Really do appreciate your help - i guess I was just under the impression that I would be able to clear them just fine since that’s all I have read. I checked everywhere else and I don’t see where it could be rubbing
I’m guessing everyone just takes the plastic right off…..Let me know if you see that rub in the pic slightly..

Yep I see it. When it's really minor like that most folks here try to reposition it before they remove the covers, just loosen up the bolts holding the crash bars in, push them " in " ( or away from the tire ) and hold it there while you tighten the bolts back up. There is almost always a little " give " and your rub certainly looks pretty slight.

Sounds good! I will make those adjustments tomorrow…..

With such a slight rub, I probably don’t need these spacers do I? I would prefer not to keep them on if I don’t need to. They are probably okay to stay on but I never checked with him to see if these would work for the truck. That’s my last question - thanks again…

Won't hurt a damn thing to take them out and see if the rub is better/worse other than cost you a little time. Spacers aren't generally known as a great solution to an offset issue, I've run them once ( a 75 BMW with a big brake clearance problem with vintage BBS wheels, pic related ) and never had a problem but it's better to not use them if you don't need them.

FYI. Spacers are gonna make it worse if its the crash bar.

i went to a +25mm rim with stock tremor 265’s and ive worn a groove in the plastic cover on the drivers side from when i reverse.
