Well the 1HP is not a true figure for the horse. It's an average measurement of the horse work shift of 4 hours. The horse can sustain 1HP of work for 4 hours.

Peak power on the other hand is roughly 15HP and with adrenaline boost you can get it to 20HP.

Amish cart is 500-1000lbs and horse is 500-1000lbs. It's not much of an challenge for the horse to pull it up to it's max speed of roughly 45-55mph. (ok.. cart pullers usually do 30-35mph).
There you go again...

As a guy who's been on a spooked horse before....its not joyriding. You're trying to survive.
As guy who’s been flung from two, my head and hoof collided once, and while riding a pony bare back slid on its side, people thought I was pulling off a stunt, I know what you mean...I’d drive roller skates to work before I get on another one of those beast.

Just something you pick up when owning a horse "ranch".

Btw: Riding one at full speed on a forest trails, without saddle and using only rope halter is like being map reader in rally. The thing goes and you're just there to give suggestions where to go.
