Dow pipe and exhaust option

Hey guys. I’m looking to add an exhaust and then a downpipe after. I know the SPD is a 3” outlet which is ideal. If there are other 3” downpipes I am not aware of them.
So my question is this…is there an exhaust system that is 3” that I can mate to my factory dow pipe, and after, easily mate to the SPD (or other) 3” downpipe?

I am looking at the AFE Rebel exhaust but it is not 3” where it connects to the downpipe so that may not be ideal.

i also read that SPD used to sell the downpipe with a 2.5 connector included but they don’t anymore?

Well I looked and looked. It seems SPD is the only true non custom full 3” option. Everything else from AFE, Borla, Roush, Magnaflow, Flowmaster, FRPP, AWE will all require the connecting end to be cut off and replaced with a 3” section in order to be true 3”.

I talked to stage 3 today. They said there SPD Downpipe stock includes adapter. Calling SPD direct they told me that they no longer include adapters and you must pick the size 3” or 2.5.

SPD also said their lead time on SS downpipes is around 2 1/2 weeks for the foreseeable future.

Pretty sure all cb systems neck down to 2 1/2", shouldnt be a big deal to cut the reduce off & weld a 3" section. With that said I would highly recommend the awe system, awesome sound & 0 drone. . . .Is the SPD dp still emissions compliant ? Will it throw an engine light ?

All except SPD neck down. And yes per SPD no engine lights. Anecdotal evidence indicates the same.

Nobody tunes for them anymore so it's not a good idea. It'll lean it out.

I asked because that is not correct. None of the big companies are tuning for catkess downpipes. Catted downpipes they most certainly are.

Who? Livernois won't touch any downpipes... Ford performance obviously not either. Which "big" company's are you referring too? It's ILLEGAL now to do anything with emission altering equipment. Including catted downpipes.

there is nothing that requires catalytic converters to replaced only by oem converters. As long as the converter is in place and functional it is legal. Stage3/5star tunes for catted pipes. Local shops in Texas do too like gearheads and many others.

With the recent epa law changes? A dp with a cat isn't the same a replacement oem cat converter. It's illegal to even tamper with oem cats now. Aftermarket dp's are usually 200/300 cell. Not even compatible in the epa's eyes to oem cat converters. Not sure where you're hearing companies still "tune for dp's" They would be heavily fined for doing so. So I doubt they are.

Tuning for a downpipe consists of modifying the air, fuel and waste gate settings etc. all of these are already tuned for with a tune.
The new EPA law is in regards to tampering/removing/disabling emission equipment. Replacing a factory catalytic converters with a functional aftermarket catalytic converter is not a violation of the law. The law was created to combat the practice of removing emissions equipment and tuning around it to “trick” emissions.
Using a catted downpipe and tuning for it is not tricking the emissions system, tampering with it or disabling it. Running a CATLESS downpipe and having the tuner disable the oxygen sensor for that cat WOULD be tampering….and that is what most shops will not do any longer….whether it be a downpipe in a turbo vehicle or a normal naturally aspirated vehicle.
Per the updated specific catalytic converter policy if the “universal converter” meets EPA requirements, which the SPD ones do, then there is no issue in their sale, use or installation.

I know I am from California so it changes things possibly... But I emailed Livernois a few months ago and they said they would not tune for the SPD downpipe. All other things, yes if need be.

California unfortunately has its strict rules which with the change, have become stricter. The current cats being used that I know of are not CARB legal. The new cat policy addresses this which indeed sucks.
