Just want to give a huge shoot out to all those that have posted info and links here ... with your help, this old non techie type guy has taught and older Vista computer (bought at a pawn shop that someone had upgraded to windows 10) an OBD device and myself to "Speak Ford" using the interpreter ForScan and to rid myself of the three complaints I've had with my truck.

Start Stop - disabled
Panic Button - Disabled
Double Honk when the Fob leaves the truck - Disabled

Again, Thank the researchers, the techies and most of all, the brave "Guinea Pigs" that were willing to test theses things and post confirmation.

Thank You

Haha. One thing I will recommend to you and unrelated from forscan, if you plan to have that computer around and connect it to your network, get someone to wipe it clean and reinstall. If it still has stuff from the previous owner, then who knows what else might be hiding on that machine, from key loggers, to who knows what else.

It would really suck if it was a POS that had it before you and there was child porn on it. My brother's nephew works for a computer firm that gets computers from the CIA and the FBI that are supposed to be wiped clean and it's amazing what they're able to extract from those computers. Take nothing for granted and CYA!

I have a friend that recommended I buy that computer to update my Harley trike gps maps. He knows the owner of the pawn shop and the owner let him take it home and test it before I bought it. My buddy brought it to me later that evening saying someone had upgraded the hard drive and memory and wiped it. Then reloaded the vista.

My buddy did the upgrade to Windows 10, because with the larger hard drive and upgraded memory, he thought it would make a great computer for me to upgrade maps, download ECM maps to my trike. Now it's turned out to be great at speaking "Ford" ... LOL ... I went to the pawn shop and gave the owner the money. I think it was like $85 or $95. out the door it was less than $100.

Turns out to be the best $$ I've spent in a long time ... now to figure out how to make a donation to ForScan. Being on a fixed and dwindling income (thanks inflation), won't be much, but, I need to help a little.

Cool. I think you can get a year for $10, or something like that. Might be more, but I know you can get something for $10-20.

ADDED: Here it is, 1 year for $10

Would the licensing stuff change, because frankly, that was the hardest part foe me ... getting the old dell to accept the license. Of course, the hardest thing was getting the license file from the Mac to the dell ... ten I remembered I had some thumb drives.

I'd really like to try the parallels next ... just not sure this old Luddite is up to the challenge. I might try the Bambi mode, it would be nice to have them on with the high beams.

The more I see posts regarding the disablement of the start-stop feature, etc., the more confused I become.

My auto-shutoff had never activated, in a year and a half of ownership, and not quite 8,000 miles on the OD. If you're really worried about it coming on, and you're about to have a stop-light derby launch, then put the transmission is Sports mode!

Deactivating the panic button is another questionable feature is some folk's mind. But if you ever need it, you'll know why it is there! Unless you're careless, or carry a bunch of unneeded junk in your pockets, it just sits there without interference. I guess if you have a CCP, it doesn't matter?

I own an XLT, so I don't have the double honk, so I won't comment on it.

The only thing disabled on my 2019 Ranger, is the 110 MPH governor. And this was done, just to prove to myself it can be disabled in the Maintenance Menu.

Why would I put it in sports mode, just push the button. I disabled it because I don't want to push the button. I don't think the starter staring the truck 20 times a day is good for it, especially when my own testing (5 full tanks letting the start stop work and 5 full tanks with it disabled with an LED, averaging 300 miles per tank, doing my normal driving) showed that the total mpg I saw were within 0.1 miles per gallon. So, I'm gaining about 2 miles per tank? I drive like I look ... LOL ... an old man. I'm averaging about 23 mpg on about 8600 miles since 01/06/21. I'm guessing I'm not polluting anywhere near what folks that are getting 19-20 mpg.

As for the panic button, I work on mechanical stuff all the time, I've set it off with nothing in my pocket except the Fob. Laying on the ground to do a Harley trike oil change and just roll over onto anything and it goes off.

The double honk is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. I stop to check my mail at the mbu and the entire neighborhood knows I'm checking mail. I don't do that at 1 am, but I can see me pulling into a campground at 11 pm and ticking off everyone as I get out to unhook the camper.

Now, disabling a 110 mph governor makes all the sense in the world to me. Just saying.

You'll get a new license, yes, but click on the steering wheel icon on the bottom left column, and you can import the new license key there. You don't need to import the key as long as they other key is still valid.

You do you. I know everyone thinks of it differently, and I don't keep ASS because I think it saves me gas, I leave it on because combined with the other 300 million cars on the road, if all of them did it then it would add up to a lot less released carbon. I do drop into sport if I know the stop will be short, but I usually let it work. That's me. If you don't like it, don't use it. Like I said, you do you.

As for the starter wear and tear, I think that's old school thinking, and I am old so I get it, but I don't think it matters as much as it once did. New starters probably last 500,000 cycles, where old starters lasted 50,000, so I don't think it's going to kill the starter.

Kewl .. I have nothing set up on the IBM, no mail, nothing except ForScan, The Harley Website that sells the updated maps and the Dyno Jet Power Vision software that allows me to tune the Harley Trike.
