The same week I bought my Ranger I started getting spam phone calls & email about extended warranties. Then the scam ones started, too. My money is on the dealer selling to marketing companies, but it could be anyone from SiriusXM to the insurance company. Or as you said, other vendors. These days I pretty much assume anyone who has access to my info is going to sell it.
The dealer would really have no interest in selling your information if you declined the extended warranty from them.

HOWEVER, the local DMV, for sure, sells the information. they have your name, address, vin #, make, year, and model of vehicle. I get at least 6 postcards in the mail shortly after I traded or bought new. and the phone calls never seem to end from extended warranty people. I've even had my TAG # on the postcards. So, the local county clerk's office is your culprit in a lot of states!!!

You are correct.

"OFC Ranger our data logger seems to indicate your truck appears to be achieving ludicrous speed with engine perimeters exceeding factory settings in the vicinity of interstate 20. Uh, we have decided to discontinue your participation in this program. Also, we ratted you out to all dealers within 250 mile radius of your residence."

I have one even better.

Within 2 weeks of buying my Ranger the dealership itself was sending me the, "We have no inventory and a customer who wants to buy your truck. Contact us for a cash offer on your vehicle" emails.

After the third one in the proceeding 4 weeks after that I replied to the email and and told them I'd take $6,000 cash above what I paid for the vehicle. They stopped sending those offers. Keep in mind this was mid-2020, long before the the car market imploded and places like Carvana were legitimately willing to do those offers. lol

But yes, I've gotten probably a dozen "URGENT: Your warranty is about to expire!" mail starting at about 3,000 miles on the odometer. You know the kind that also has the warning on the envelope that says "time sensitive" and "federal offense to open this envelope unless you are the intended recipient"

Got another one a few weeks ago with my odometer at 6,000.

Nevermind the fact I actually got an extended 100k/10yr warranty when I purchased the truck.

I've come to spot those letters about warranties the second I take them out of the mailbox. In the trash they go.

Yeah, I just bought the truck, 2 weeks my "warranty is about to expire".

One day, one of the "auto warranty services" jerks called me and I answered it.... Hung up. Called back, and it wasn't a spoofed number. I called them another 45 times to annoy them and take up their time (yeah, I was bored - - and I even got cussed a few times.

Take the logger out and bring it on your next vacation. Boeing 747s go about 600mph.

Hey can one of you guys ask for a detailed list of all data collected? You would think Ford (or "they" whoever is running this) has to tell you if you ask.
From the website:

Logger Hyperlink Information: Hardware info: logger is small box and connects to OBD port with a splitter cable, will be securely placed behind the trim below steering and dashboard. Service personnel will be given detail instruction document along with logger.

Data Collected: Data that may be collected by Ford includes, the following, or substantially
similar data:
 Date and time of data
 Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
 Odometer (mileage)
 Vehicle speed
 Braking
 Steering
 Engine and transmission parameters
 Feature utilization (e.g. remote unlock/lock, doors, towing)
 Location-based data (such as direction heading, latitude and longitude, also known as
Global Positioning System (GPS) data)

To reiterate, this is a research and development initiative to support new product development.
Please be assured that Escalent is not engaged in sales, advertising, or publicity of any
kind. Escalent will not attempt to sell you anything now or in the future because of your
participation in this program, and all information provided will remain confidential. Data
collected from the vehicle logger device will be recorded on an individual basis; however, survey
data will be reported in aggregate.
