The Flood and Ziegler warrantees are Ford and not a 3rd party. I don't have one so I cant comment on how they are as far as claims but I would hope much better than the 3rd party ones. If I decide to keep my Ranger after next year I will look into getting one one of these before the original is up.

I had the same problems like you did with a home warranty. It was a nightmare dealing with them and more frustrating than just paying to have the unit fixed myself. I cancelled after the first year!
Thanks and no kidding about that home warranty. It was a total pain in the rear when my heater went out. Long story short after several days and a few hours on the phone I finally got it resolved. They gave me so much run around I almost just gave in and was about to pay for the repair myself. I think that's what they want you to do. Needless to say when they started sending me mail stating the warranty was a about to expire and should pay them to renew it all went straight to my shredder.

I agree it's a crap shoot. I didn't have one on my 2012 Focus. The only mechanical issues I had with it in 151,000 miles aside from a window motor were related to an accident I had with it. Aside from the accident it served me very well for over 9 years. In that case I am glad I didn't pay for an extra warranty.

I'm getting ready to buy a 2019 Ranger XL with 78,000 miles on it. It is being shipped from another state and should be here in a few days. I have an option to purchase an extended factory bumper-to-bumper warranty for $1,800 (for 3 years) and, in the past with my previous cars, I have typically not done this. But, I'm considering it due to the high mileage on the truck and don't want any surprise major expenses. Can you guys tell me what your experience has been with things going wrong or breaking after it has some miles on your Rangers? Do you think an extended warranty is a good value? Thanks for your advice.
You can't even buy an extended warranty through Flood Ford and other places with that mileage..You can go to the site and try and it will tell you not qualified. I would make sure it is a Ford Service Plan for sure, and not some fly by night outfit, and if it is legit, I'd say for peace of mind and in case something goes bad, you are covered, it is worth it. You don't really know how the previous owner drove it, they definitely put some miles on it. Hopefully, they have the service records as well. I'd say 125K/4 years, it should be negotiable.
If the warranty is strictly through the Dealership, be careful, I have seen where you have to get it repaired at that Dealership only..no where else. My 200K powertrain warranty is like that after the 60K or 5 years.

You can get one through Zeigler with those miles but you're right Flood will not let you.

I had a similar experience with the first home I purchased. It was a triple wide manufactured home. The electricity went out in the kitchen and a few other outlets. The issue spanned several different circuits, not isolated to just 1.

When I called the warranty company, they sent out a tech who was in khakis and a polo shirt. Nice business casual wear, but I mention it to show he had no intention of tracing down the real issue, going under the house or anything like that.

The lot I was on had a panel and sewer connections on a small pad that when a home was move to the lot, the connections could easily be made. At some point, an idiot decided to drill a hole in the conduit and run wires into that hole through the conduit under the house instead of just putting the wires in properly at the end of the conduit. They taped over this with very thick electrical tape. However, the wires actually went no where. They weren't hooked to anything. Anyhow, the tech sees that, writes it up as a code violation, says it is causing my problem and says I need a new circuit run and leaves.

A friend (who is now my father in law) owned an HVAC/R business (That I now own with my wife, lol) and did electrical work as part of the job. We both knew what was pointed out wasn't the issue. It wasn't right, but wasn't the problem. However, since the "expert" said it was, the warranty company wouldn't budge. The cost was under my deductible about, so no coverage.

Anyhow, he and I went through each and every circuit one at a time tracing down wires to find the issue. It took us about 8-10 hours if I remember correctly. We finally found the problem. There is a junction box under the house where the 2 sections of house "plug" together to carry power from 1 section the the other. The plug had burned up. We removed the plug all together and made proper splices in a proper junction box. Everything worked great.

He wrote up a bill for our time spent, and I submitted it to the warranty company. They claimed that because he only had his C20 license and wasnt a full blown electrical contractor the diagnosis/repair took longer than it should have. They offered something like half the amount of the bill.

I debated fighting them, but the amount offered was more than I paid for the warranty and my issue was fixed, so I just accepted and moved on.

I have not and will never purchase another home warranty.

It's probably been said, but it depends on what you can afford. If a person lives check to check, but can pay the fee but not pay for a huge bill if something breaks, then it might be worth it to them. For me, having more gray hair than I care to admit, I have never bought an extended warranty on anything, and at this point in life I'm ahead of the game. I am also fortunate in my gray years to have the means to pay for unexpected expenses.

So it's entirely up to each person to decide how to proceed.

There has been a change in my plans. I got tired of waiting (still didn't have a ship date on the one I was having shipped up here), so I looked around again. I found another Ranger that is only a few hours away that came in on trade last night- it is at a Ford dealer and already has the STX package, which means that I won't have to spend money to upgrade the wheels, add flood lights, or a few other things. It only has 54k miles (instead of 78k) and it has cloth seats instead of the vinyl on the other one. Plus, the price is about the same. So, if all things go well, I should have my Ranger on Friday. I'll keep you guys posted.

Regarding the warranty, they've offered an extended warranty too, but for $1,900 for 5/50k.

I'd say it all depends on whether you live near the dealer that you bought it from...seeing as you are buying used, you may not get a loaner car. Here in MD, Ford dealers don't give out loaners unless you bought the truck from them. The dealer will/should fix your issue, but you might be at the bottom of the priority list.

KY may be different...at least I hope so.

I'd spent that money on a vehicle with far less miles...

$1,800 for that warranty's duration is about $500 more than I'd ever pay. I'd want bumper to bumper up to 150K with that price. You can negotiate the price of the warranties down a lot.
You can negotiate ESP prices at a finance office at a dealer.

ESP prices online are pretty well already razor thin from what I can tell. Promo codes can bring them down cheaper.

So how is a warranty from a company named Ziegler not considered a third party warranty?
Because Zeigler is a Ford dealership in Michigan. They have a website that sells the Genuine Ford ESP online.

What does the name have to do with it? and its spelled Zeigler.

A warranty is a warranty. Doesn't need to come from ford. Just be sure you know what you're buying.
