I was going to raise my truck and add tires but decided against it since it required raising my garage door header. I decided to go horizontal rather than vertical. I figured for the $6200 to raise the doors, I'll spend the money on the bigger turbo, down pipe, cold air intake, BOV and a bigger intercooler. I am just trying to research all the pieces to make sure everything plays nice together.

Years ago, I swapped a cam in my Mustang and later added a Vortech supercharger. It turned out that the valve over lap with the cam I had put in was allowing the air/fuel mixture partially blow right out the exhaust. The intake valve was opening before the exhaust valve was closed. Once I changed the cam to one that was made for a supercharged engine, it was like I had twin superchargers.

Back to the Ranger, I want to do the above work but I am not going to want to have to remove something I have added. Has anyone gone full out for straight line performance? There is a lot out the on the 2.3L EcoBoost Mustang and, short of finding one YouTube video of a blue Ranger with Colorado plates, I don't see much out there. I want to push this thing until the internals become externals. Then the fun starts...

If you want a fast car, buy a fast car.

Dollar for Dollar seems like trying to make a truck a dragster isn't very efficient...
True. It's all what ya want. I had an '06 GTO with the LS2 and added twin turbos which dyno'ed at 633. I also just sold my '16 C7 Corvette. I am waiting for the Z06 version of the C8 so I just need a toy that's different to keep me busy. This will be something different.

Ok that doesnt change my opinion if all you buy a TRX for is to drive fast in a straight line
you mentioned turning a truck into a dragster - and last time I was at a dragstrip dragsters just make straight runs , maybe a little side to side drift from all that HP. :)

I understand where your coming from. If you want a quick truck go for it. This is a very capable platform to make power with. I feel I’m one of the few who is more focused on straight line performance with my Ranger, so know there are some of your 5g brethren of the same mindset.

For me I wanted to start with the lightest weight Ranger there is, a base XL ext cab, being 375lbs heavier than the Mustang. The 10R80 will handle all the power a big turbo, modified 2.3 can make, motor will fail before the transmission will. Tons of parts for the 2.3 are available; fuel system, cams, bigger turbos, cat-less downpipes etc

There are several professional tuning outfits that can tune for a bigger turbo, cat-less downpipe, etc. The blue truck from Colorado you referenced is the most modified I’m aware of regarding a turbo swap.

Having a fast straight line performing 5g truck is more unexplored in comparison to all the off-roading adventures people have done with their Rangers. The fastest time I’ve seen on the board was a 13.5 from 13SecondRanger if memory serves correct. Have fun and enjoy!

Yep, that's the blue one I was referring to.

I've had a '91 Mustang running mid 11's, the stock C7 and the sub 11 second GTO. I've done all that. The Ranger is something different. I'd love to pull next to an STI and smoke it and have them wondering what happened.

I'm in my mid 50's, kids out of college and if I blow something up, I have the money to make it better.

Just curious, how tall is your garage door header? Mine is a 6.5 foot door, I just remodeled the outside (before the truck) and a new insulated door so like you i had to be careful on a lift due to that stupid antenna. By swapping to the solid aluminum stubby antenna i gained a lot. I also had a fried who owns a machine shop make an offset mount for the base, so now my Craven speed stubby antenna is level with the whale tail. I had 3.5" of clearance from the antenna and the lowest part of the header which is the weather strip across the top. Last summer i stacked 2 inch tall 18x18 pavers in front of the truck from outside to inside the garage and pulled the truck front onto them and knew i was good on clearance.

So far I have done a combined lift of 2 inches (bilstein and a wedge at the top) when i came home i only lost 1/2" of clearance from the antenna and the header due to only doing a level lift. I also swapped my UCA's and intrusion beams so next month I plan to buy 285 C rated tires. After that i will come home and see how much more clearance i have and if it is what i think it will be I can add the lower wedge under the shock (readylift billet aluminum top and bottom) and that will give me an inch. I can also machine those down a bit if need be.

i unfortunately must have deleted the pics of the header with the new antenna setup but i can snap one later if it helps.

Found a Pic before the machined base , I gained a 1/4 inch with it so before the lift I had 3.5" clearance.

My door is considered a 9x7. The framing is just under 7'. Raising it to 8' is all labor. Put up temporary support, longer 2x4's on each side, header back in place and put the siding back. I think I sold myself on the straight line speed.

Thanks. I plan on doing what makes me happy! Two weeks vacation down south then the parts ordering begins.
