Looking at various retractable aluminum covers ranging from $800-$2000 at high end. Ford OEM one is about $1700 (list $2100), is it worth it? I see some good reviews on Amazon ones but some say they leak on ranger.

suggestions please?
(BTW - just got this 2021 Lariat 4x4, had a 2019 that I lemon lawed. Bad luck I guess, 24 days in shop in 11 months! Ford was great working with me though)

also interested in foldable ones, Tri or quad? Retractable takes up a lot of space which makes this a consideration

suggestions please?

What is it that you want? Do you want the aluminum because of the look or security or...? I've got some ideas but it's important to know what you are wanting out of your cover.

I installed the PaceEdwards Ultra Groove on my 2021 Ranger. You are still able to install a rack on top of this tonneau cover ! I am very very happy ! I installed also a tailgate seal and bed rug. The bed stays dry also after heavy rain. I drove last weelend some 4x4 roads. A little bit of dust sneaked under the cover, not bad at all.

Just took delivery on a 2021 XLT SCab with the Ford (Retrax) retractable. Initial impressions are 9/10.
Highs - sooo easy to open and close compared to the tri-folds I have had previously. And way cool to be able to use the tracks to attach the Overhaul HD rack. Think I freaked out the sales rep when evaluating for delivery and I stood up on it to validate strength (this is the one with aluminum slats, I am 6' 212lbs, size 12 sneakers), and it barely deflected, so def. strong enough for my expected needs (light bulky items I can secure across the bed, maybe some firewood from time to time). Security hard to beat and it generally seems solid. The price is good compared to aftermarket.

Lows - it is noisier when opening and closing than I expected, no big deal. It takes up a bit of space in the bed, but I expected that. My main concern was fitting the battery and air compressor boxes underneath - clearance is ~11.5", just enough, thank goodness I custom built the boxes rather than using a regular toolbox. It only locks in the fully closed position. I will likely modify this by drilling holes to allow the locking pin to seat in fully open and maybe one or two other locations once I get everything else installed. The lock cover is a cheesy bit of rubber that will likely dry-up and get blown off in a few years - if so I'll fab something to keep the lock from filling with whatever.

Best of luck whatever you choose :)

Here are a few measurements (inches):

1) Distance between rails ~55 3/8
2) Intrusion of bed cover from rail into bed is ~ 1 7/8 on each side
3) Lap of bed cover over the top of each rail is ~ 1 7/8
4) Distance from center of one bed cover mounting track to the center of the one on the other side is 56 7/8

Let me know if that isn't what you wanted or if you want pictures of any of that. The weather is nice today and I'm getting the sliders ready to put on.

:)

I like the Bakflip F1. Its looks good, its durable and really low profile. The only downfall is that Bakflip is taking about a month get it to you.

Hi. I don't want to derail this thread but can you briefly fill me in on the reason for the 2019 getting lemon lawed? Thanks

Looks almost like the Pace Edwards Ultra Groove. The Ultra Groove has the locking latch on the inside. You have to open the tailgate to open the cover.

I ordered the cover directly from Pace Edwards after I bought my pick up in January 2021. The cover was delivered withn 4 !!! days. $1500 including shipping.

I just ordered the Pace Edwards Switchblade from one of the authorized dealers on their site, Midwest Aftermarket. I paid $829.00 shipped which was much less than anywhere else I could find.
I liked this one as it locks withe tailgate (no other lock/key to deal with). I did not need it to lock in multiple positions or keys to deal with. I didn’t want another rollup or flip. So the only decision was amount of money to spend. This and the Synetic were the only two under $1k.

Nice! What are dimensions of the storage rolls out box? Wondering how much of the 5.1” of bed it consumes?

Looking at various retractable aluminum covers...
Thank you for creating this thread: I just got my 2021 Ranger and I'm on the market for a retractable cover too. There's been some interesting options mentioned here. Hopefully other folks can chime in! :like:
