Any tuners that also control throttle response?

So I want to order an iDrive or Pedal Commander or similar. I also want to see about getting a tuner.

Am I going to be looking at two different purchases, or can a tuner do what a throttle response controller does without having the physical interjection at the pedal plug?

I'm fly. I'm pilot.
A tuner will adjust the throttle response, aka the electronic throttle body's (ETB) reaction to throttle pedal inputs. Throttle response is part of what makes a tune in a vehicle with an ETB, alone with boost, ignition timing, and transmission tuning.

In short, a tuner will adjust throttle response.

This is good news and saves me some money.

Now to figure out which tuner to get. I see all kinds ranging from the $300 up to $600 range.

Lots of threads here to help you chose.

Borrow a friends windows laptop. It's worth it. Only have to do it once.

Ngauge with 5 Star and I can use my own laptop anytime I want. If I want to tweak a tune, call 5 Star and it's done in minutes. I don't support companies who can't invest in a wider spectrum of consumers. Not to mention, not sure I know anyone that doesn't have a MacBook these days.

Jesus Christ dude. I wasn’t responding to you in the first place. Why have you made this all about you?

5 Star is cute, but I’ll take the tuner that can adjust for elevation without plugging in my overpriced laptop.

ok anyhow, I e-mailed the primary known tuner guys and inquired what they can offer for my specific goals:

- (91 or 93 octane) more low end power; no I don't tow things - however I don't need more top end, this truck is basically anemic on the low end. The only way it will get up and go is to drop it in sport mode and hulk smash the pedal. I don't need push me back in the seat every stop light, but something better than feeling like I am driving a 2000 Honda Civic. My aerodynamics are shot anyhow, so fuel economy loss is basically a non-issue to me. I'm only getting 16.5 right now and I am not an aggressive driver.

- getting rid of that gawd aweful throttle delay.

- (if possible) speedometer re-calibration due to tire size. Currently I am 1 MPH off for every 10 MPH of speed. Really don't want to spend $130 on a separate one trick pony tuner device to fix this.

I know at the end of the day its a four banger with a turbo, but if its possible to shift power and shifting to favor lower gears then that is what I want. The rest is just icing on the cake.

Random Complaint for Tuner Companies: All you guys list names for your tunes, ie; "93 Sport Tune" or "91 Towing Tune" - but literally offer no clearly visible documentation or explanation on what your ten different tunes actually do. That or I am blind. This isn't specific to one company, basically all of them who offer pre-set tunes don't clarify what any of the shit means. I have a vague idea a sport tune is about juicing more power and towing is more about the low end; but outside of this nothing seems to be clarified. Yes you show dyno chart graphs with samples, but some plain English documentation would be great; "In this tune we adjust the shift points in this manner and here is why".

If someone can link me plain English to what exactly each tune is doing specifically I'll gladly eat humble pie.

Jack, I get 22MPG and no throttle delay. Maybe you need to take it to the dealer and tell them that you are getting bad MPG and a throttle delay.

I'm pretty sure at this point all my upgrades have killed my mileage. My aerodynamics are pretty non existent at this point. Even if this was partially something wrong on fords end, I'm not glutton for punishment. They will take one look at my truck and argue down to their last tooth its my equipment causing every last percentage of loss. My patience for dealerships is also non-existent.

They already performed the reset of the TSB on cold start and first gear problems. They won't be on my side to go down further. If there is something wrong with the factory tune in my truck, then a tuner will fix it anyhow.

My throttle response is fine by factory standards, I am simply not happy at the end of the day with how sluggish they have the drive by wire set. To clarify this is the first new car I've ever had and with an automatic, all my previous trucks were older and manuals.

I went with the Ford Performance tune and am quite pleased with it. Levittown is a sponsor here and is a great company that sells genuine Ford parts/accessories at around 30% off dealer prices; look up Benny in here, he’s responsive and often provides discount codes. Here’s a link to the tune sold on their site: https://www.levittownfordparts.com/sku/m-9603-reb.html

Others in here have made valid statements in regard to your throttle response question, though, I’ll add to that. Throttle response is also affected, as I’m sure you’re aware, by how well your engine breathes. Swapping out your intake and exhaust will help; I went w/ the Roush CAI and the Ford Performance (Borla) exhaust.

There are plenty of other solutions regarding tuning, intake and exhaust to fit your needs.

Bottom line, tune it and let it breathe!

Unleashed. Torrie will adjust any requests you give him within reason of safety. He gives you lifetime support. You can do bolt on after bolt on and datalog and he'll ajust the tune if he sees and gains to be made. The only thing that would require buying a new tune is a big turbo upgrade or something major like that. The downshifting was always too hard when coming to a stop even at a slow stop and had him soften all the downshifts from 7th down and no more jerky stops.
