Hi guys,

Today I found our Ranger in deep sleep mode. The reason was Lights dial was moved from automatic to one of set modes. I hate this dial in it's current position because it can be easily touched when moving in/out of the cabin. But it is a different story.

My question is: is there a proper wake up method, another than jump starting Ranger?
It does not react on phone app or when I put the key into start position.

If you don't want to jump it, you can put it on a battery tender and allow the dead battery to trickle charge vs charge off the alternator.

I don't see an issue with jumping it, you'll just have to drive it for a decent amount of time to charge the battery.

When this happens has anyone tried placing the Fob (if equipped with keyless start) in the rear cup holder? (The one closest to the center console?)
I know this is where your supposed to place the fob if the battery in the fob is dead. Might be worth looking into.

Battery pack booster ... I've used mine several times on several vehicles.
Bought some for my girls too.

I drove a company (county) vehicle for a week while I was on call and after a week of the Ranger sitting it wouldn't start had to use my battery charger in the 60A Start Mode and jump started it. Truck is only 7 months old and has about 1700 miles, what's with the crappy batteries they put in these Rangers? Or is there some excessive current drain when the truck is just sitting?

When mine went into DSM it started right up. Since then I bought a battery charger/maintainer with my FordPass points. I hook it up just to keep the battery topped off. They have one on Amazon identically to the Ford one but cheaper and it is made by the same company. @RANGER PRIDE is right there's always a slow drain with all the electronics on board.

Hi Dave, I just ordered the CTEK charger from Amazon. Thanks for the post. Do you have a recommended grounding location for the negative terminal?

...and while I was a little tempted (NOT), I didn't add a damper to this order. :whew:

Hey Al, I grounded mine to the side of the body. You have to takeoff that plastic cover (there's a clip on the top) to get the bolt out. Even then there's barely enough room but it will come out, just don't drop it.

BTW...I've just about given up on you! But there's still a little hope left. ?

Yes the engine bay is in need of a serious cleaning.

Thank you. I was just looking at that spot. You must leave your charger's negative terminal permanently attached at that location?

Hummmm......

I thought it was important to charge using the outer negative terminal on the battery, so the BMS would recognize the charge.

As noted in this thread:
Power Drain | 2019+ Ford Ranger and Raptor Forum (5th Generation) - Ranger5G.com

Is that not true? Does it not make a difference?
Just curious.
According to the CTEK tutorials the negative terminal of the charger should go to a body ground (not the battery negative terminal). Here are three videos from CTEK. The second one addresses connections:

Edit: I think the "Power Drain" link you provided above is saying the same thing where Bennet stated:

make sure the ground is on the chassis side of the terminal (where my finger is) or even on a separate chassis ground. Don't put the negative directly on the battery.

Yes. This is the negative lead from the pigtail that stays connected to the body and the positive one to the battery so you can just plug in the charger. This way it's a quick connect/disconnect and you just tuck the end in front of the battery. I'm not using the jumper cable ends on the charger but they're there for another option if you want.

Pigtail is the second and third picture:

Ah, that clears it up for me!
I've got it now.
Thanks.

I hadn't used my Ford Pass app in a long time and forgot the password, so I got a new one. When l opened it up it said my truck was in deep sleep mode and to manually start it. I only drive the truck on weekends and on trips so I will use it at least once each weekend to keep it current
