Washing my truck today for the first time and realized the front inner fenders are like carpet. The backs are hard plastic. My truck does have the black out edition but I’m just curious why and do all rangers have this. The carpet acts as Velcro catching grass dirt etc. longevity of this can’t be good. I will post a pic but I’m just curious of this and do all have them or??????

I think its more for sound deadening because the engine is right behind it. If it was hard plastic it would make a rattling and echoing sound. Also maybe to cut down noise in the cab. But I'm just assuming. Now I wonder if there hard material replacement

I thought that material would be a problem holding mud. It cleans easily at the spray wash. Doesn't look as cheap as smooth plastic.
So it’s a good thing I’m understanding. I haven’t really had mud on mine yet but it will clean good . And be durable for the long haul?

My Focus and Escape booth had the undertrays made from it. It holds up surprisingly well.

So if we take these off I wonder if there is a hard shell underneath that is black?

I was surprised by this too! I thought it was Ford’s way of color coordinating due to terrain. Mine went from dusty orange while running through a ranch, to dusty gray going through gravel roads. It’s somewhere in between now.

Ford uses this material on lots of vehicles. Had it on my Mustang and Escape.

GM went the same route with their Vette's. We had ours in the Ohio Amish country last week. and got caught in the rain on the backs road. I'm here to say that the stuff that comes out of the back of Mr. Yoder's horse is a bugger to get out of that material.

Plus, it ain't much of a sound deadener either.

Ford has been using liners made of some sort of felt for quite a few years.
I can tell you that rocks picked up by the tire and thrown into the well are way quieter than with a plastic liner.

Thats about the only thing ive noticed.

Hello Jim,

Amish country in Ohio is so fun and food is fantastic. We love the little restaurant in Charm. Seems to be our go to place.
You came all the way from south of the Dixie Line is kinda of interesting Hope you had a good time especially cleaning up Mr. Yoders droppings
