Hey all,

I am working on installing a diode isolator into my Ranger. I installed a secondary battery in the bed to power a RV fan for when we sleep in the RTT so I wouldn’t be drawing from the main battery. However I need to keep this secondary battery topped off so that’s where the isolator comes in. I need to find a fuse that’s only on when the engine is running, I don’t have a multimeter (one I have broke on me) to test the circuits so does anyone know what would be a good fuse to piggy back off of for the isolator? I’ll be using an add a fuse plug and it won’t be drawing much power since all the isolator needs is a signal to close and open the circuit.
Thanks!

Why not use a Bosch type auto relay controlled by 12 volts that is only hot when the engine is running. A diode is going to give you about a 1 volt drop, the relay would not. I would fuse both the lead to the coil of the relay and the connection to the extra battery.

Honestly, I didn’t know about this way. I’ll look into this. Thank you

I would be really interested in seeing how you secured your battery in the bed. I want to do the same thing but really don’t want to drill any new holes in the bed.
