from what I can tell it's a heat strip for defrosting so the camera isn't blocked by snow/ice. The fact it's crooked drives me crazy. Crooked stickers are even worse.

If you are driving in snowy conditions wouldn't the entire windshield already be clean via the defroster and wipers on? Why would just that small area have its own defrost strip? Or, It may very well be a heat strip for people who are in a hurry and take off with just a small defrosted area to see through low on the windshield like I have done many times when parked outside overnight. Need to park outside on a clear night with frost and see if that area does clear as the truck is warming up.

The big chunk of plastic probably interferes with the efficiency of the front defogger.

I live in upstate NY where winter is hell and often get the "front camera is obstructed" message on the dash. Engineers obviously thought it was necessary that's why it's there.

Defrost line for camera
I find it strange that it's at an angle. The software must be programmed for it to be at the angle and to not notice it. Or the lens focal point makes the defrost wire too close to see anyway. Why didn't they do a large defrost square around the outside of that area? Or better yet, heated purge air with convection flow from below it, no fan push needed.. Then they wouldn't have had to do special programming to ignore the line. Us engineers really want to get to the bottom of this. :D

Arrrrrrrrrrg! Symmetry, the bane of Engineers against stylists asymmetrical wishes.... Back in the day of Fender mounted Radio antenna, there are those that stated the vehicle should have two...one on each front fender...

LOL.....I think a Goldwing needs 2 antenna's, just doesn't look right with just one!

I traveled Interstate 90 through NY to MA when my daughter was in college there. I remember a huge plow blade sitting just off the interstate I believe around Buffalo, NY with the previous years snow fall total that area had plowed. I don't recall the yearly numbers but it was an unbelievable amount!

yup I live on tug hill which is right in the middle of the lake effect from lake Ontario. We get an average of 200 inches per year. It's not as extreme in recent years but I remember one halloween as a kid where we had 3 feet overnight and it didn't melt till spring and spring for us is late april/may. My grandpa used to say we have two seasons here winter and july.

So while washing my truck today I noticed what looks like a piece if string in the front camera.. I could be wrong but it just doesn't seem like something that should be there
Assuming I'm right and it's not normal does anyone have info on how to remove the trim piece on the camera?

Really? So it crosses at a weird angle in the camera viewpoint on all rangers? The defroster thought makes sense I guess so that area is clear for the camera view
