Does anyone know what the 4 notches on the exterior of the boxes provide? Are there slide mounts or something i am missing? Thank you in advance!

The swing cases in my F150 don't have these. They almost look like something would slide up from the bottom and snap on there. Maybe there are some accessories for them.

I have the same box only on the right side. It also has the notches but I don't know why.

That's what it looks like to me too. I looked through the Ford online catalog a while back and didn't see anything for these. Almost looks like it's slotted for a shelf so when they're open you can lay your tools out on it?

Also for anyone who has the tool box, will these work with a bed extender? I leave my bed extender flipped inside the bed and it's hard to tell if the tool box will be in the way.

I've got 2 on my F150 with a bed rug. They won't easily slide on/off the hinge pins but swing and latch just fine.

I don't have a bed extender, but I do have a pivot box and I can't see any way it would fit or work with an extender.

It didn't seem like it would from looking at the pictures here. It looks like the tool box sticks out just far enough to catch the edges of the extender when it's flipped inside. Thanks!

Perhaps a cargo hold bar that doubles as an anti swing out device ?

Why would you need that? The box clamps in place along the inside of the bed. Not sure what swing out you’re trying to prevent.

Rough terrain may jar it loose from it's locked position ?

Got it. Not likely given the latch and provision for a lock on the pivot bracket.
It's plastic. They may just be stiffeners so the box can take some hits without breaking as easily.
