I replaced my Ranger XLT Sport 4x4 with an XLT FX4 today.

So when I bought my Ranger, I didn't have a down payment saved up like I'd been planing, and I didn't have a car to trade in. I had a settlement from an accident (which was less than I thought it would be) and not a lot of time.
So I bought the Ranger I could afford that they had available, not what I wanted.
And that Lightning blue XLT Sport 4x4 was a good truck but it didn't have what I wanted.
So today, I traded it for a Tuxedo Black (it's pretty but the blue is prettier) XLT FX4.
That blue Ranger will make somebody happy and this FX4 will make me happy.
The Dealer will contact me in a day or so to install the full tow package with a trailer brake controller.

I'm going to be honest. I don't think you gained anything except for a sliding back window and differently labeled shocks. Unless you went from basic Sync to Sync3 I don't really see why you did this. But if it's a truck that you like more than hey, more power to you for being able to make it happen! I also agree that the blue is better looking. :inspect:

Heated power seats, adaptive cruise control, Trail management, locking differential, skid plates.
ARB makes a locker but that's $1000. Plus the compressor $250-500 + install $1000 and still wouldn't have the electronically governed capabilities or the skid plates (another $600-1000).
I'm going overlanding and taking this truck places like the Maze in Canyonlands National Park, and other places. And it's $62/month more than I was paying for less capability

So, you got the equivalent of a Lariat. Any reason why you went the upgrade route instead of a Lariat? Just curious. Love your new truck!

Nice truck! Although I am a little biased because it's almost identical to mine. I thought the only black color was Shadow Black?

I waited 3 1/2 months to get exactly what I wanted. And 7000 miles later I still am not wanting anything different.

You are correct, of course. I think that "tuxedo black" was the paint name for the paint repairs on my wife's Hyundai and it just stuck in my head.

In the area around here, this XLT was the lowest priced option that had everything I wanted. Nothing really more than that.

I wanted to wait until I had a nice down payment saved up, but my kid decided to run my car into the back end of a tractor trailer while we were on vacation. So much for saving for a downpayment and having a car to trade.
In retrospect, I should have taken the insurance and bought the cheapest piece of crap I could find and then went ahead and kept saving, but that wasn't what I did.

Good job, Mike, FX4 rangers are great for Utah deserts, love my Ranger
And I've got a trip through Canyonlands National Park, and areas around Moab planned for early April with my dad. We did a bunch of camping trips the year before I joined the army (1988) but we never did CYP White Rim or some of the other things in that area because by the time we thought of that, it was around 120 degrees (August). So this is a trip that is 32 years overdue.

I have pretty much the same kind of truck, sans adaptive cruise. And I chose the XLT over the Lariat because I didn't want the extras that the Lariat had over the XLT. I didn't want leather seats, the single gauge cluster, the additional tech, etc. I also like the look of the XLT better. The mesh grille, the headlights, the mirrors. I know you weren't asking me, but it just got me thinking about my own choices.

Hmmm I've got the same sport package XLT in lightning blue. Mine came with locking rear diff, sliding rear window, heated seats upgraded sync. Basically everything but adaptive cruise and terrain management. Not impressed with terrain management nor adaptive cruise, my step dad has the fx4 and I've used his so I'm not missing much that I can't do myself. Adaptive cruise just pisses me off with that dang vehicle in the slow lane that for the life of them cant maintain a feeking constant speed. I just get pissed and usually go around anyway. Don't get me wrong FX4's are nice but not for what I will do in modifications. Way better aftermarket suspension parts out there than FX4. But at the end of the day you have to be happy with what you bought. If you plan not to modify then you made the right choice.
