I am researching this diagnostic scanner and I am wondering if anyone has used this tool with their Ranger. Any and all feedback is heartily welcomed and appreciated. There are many Youtube videos out as well as several reviews. But I only trust those sites so far, and a real life review from someone not affiliated with the company goes much farther with me.

Here is one such website

Have not used that brand, but it just depends how much you want to spend and how often you will use it, if just for your own personnel use it appears ok. But can it be updated? That is something you should consider.

I have owned the cheap code readers and live data only and have the more expensive scanners with Bi-Directional Control, these are the best options as you can do just about everything that a dealer can do.

I currently have this one: Autel 906TS, it does everything I need, mainly code reading and functional check various modules. I am a former Auto Tech who got out of that field before Scanning became the norm, we were still at OBD-1 then and over the years got tired of having to pay shop at that time before the Auto-Zones etc - scanned for free around 75.00 just to hook up and get code. So, i invested in my own scanner and have owned the cheaper ones and always was frustrated that it would not do certain tasks
Now my current Autel works for me, it was expensive investment, but I still work on the side repairing Auto's from time to time, so the cost is already covered. I do pay about 500 a year to keep it updated though, not required but if you want all the current updates (2022,2023 etc) you will need to keep it updated.

When I researched for mine, Autel and Launch were the most popular scanners, but again I had a budget in mind of 1500 for one and both of these fit that budget

So, to sum it up as long as you have Bi-Directional functions and can be updated, I would say give it a try

I use Forscan for all my Fords. With a paid subscription it allows me to change any settings I want and has a diagnostic read for codes and factory stuff normal readers can’t see.

Autel MS906-TS
First 3 years auto updates are free, then $199 annually and you can skip years. Updates come often as they add functions and features.

It is Bidirectional and I contacted them concerning not having ABS lock brake bleed function. They promptly got back to me and informed me that the request was forwarded to their engineer. They then asked me if I had further features that I would like added.

I have never heard to them prior to my research, hence my inquiry here.

Well, I went ahead and ordered the D8 from Amazon. It was on sale at $569. I figure I have 30 days to try it out. I'll report back what I find. If anyone has any questions regarding capabilities, or even wish lists, please post them here and I will forward them to the XTools team to be queued up for future updates. They seem very responsive to requests.

Updates occur quite regularly, and based upon others comments, they have a quick turnaround time.

We shall see...

Just a FYI, Hopefully the D8 will follow suite.
But Autel just released a Full set of Bi-Directional (Active Tests) Covering the Ranger 19-22 for my MS-906TS Scanner

I played with it some, and I noted gaining a ton of functionality, glad I did not pull the trigger and look for upgrading the scanner.
The main ones I wanted was to control the EGR Valve Position and Clutch Fan Speed.
I gained that and a lot more including the BCM side for lighting, door locks etc
I gained the LIN Module (New) Initialization as well
I also have a PCM Wake Up - Output Control, Hmm I might have to play with that one, since my recent dive into the (No-Start / No-Power) issues, which I have concluded thus far the issue appears to be on this specific circuit, just to see if I can duplicate the issue others are having.

The Only thing I don't see as compared to (Ford) FDRS is the CAN Bus Diagnostic, I think it is called Topoligy

Buy anyway, I think that Ford has released the authorization to the various manufactures to include more than basic scan tool functionality, finally. So hopefully you will see the same on your D8 soon. Just thought I would pass this along, since you are looking into getting full control as well.

WOW! That's a massive improvement in features. Congrats... I am jealous :)

Just broke out my D8 to see what new updates are out for my Ranger. Major OS and Diagnostic release downloading, but I am not holding my breath

I am still working with Xtools to update the feature set of my D8... I am currently disappointed with the D8 limitations, but I have another 18-20 months to henpeck them into updating the bi-directional features that I thought I was getting. Sigh! Off to send another note to them.
