Anyone using any kind of grill cover/winter bra for keeping the engine warm in the winter? I've thought about covering the lower radiator (not the intercooler!) with some cardboard. I've heard about the gas condensation in the oil and want to help my oil get warmer to boil it out.

Any thoughts or experiences much appreciated!!

Really not needed in these trucks.
Between the ecu controlled electric thermostat and the fact that coolant passes in between each exhaust channel in the head as well as the turbo, there is no need to decrease the efficiency of the cooling system.
I have a Ford Pro cal and can see my oil and coolant temps as a numerical value and they don’t differ once warmed up whether I’m driving in 90 degrees ambient temp or below 0.

Ok, much appreciated! Haven't bought any OBD reader yet so I didn't know what the temps are during the drive. That's the one thing about this truck that annoys me the most coming from my Colorado is how little info the gauge gives you on how the vehicle is operating. No voltage, old pressure, transmission temp, etc. Just a vague coolant temp gauge and fuel tank level.

Now I must ask how you got the oil temperature for your truck. I don't recall seat in the MyTouch calibrator and I know it's the same thing as the procal 4.

Hi Dyster,

Ford has many tests to -40°. No need. Waste of time and money....

I used to do that in my 1984 Ranger because it took for ever to warm up and at highway speeds couldn't hold heat in the cab. But there was a LOT of air space around that 2.3L and it had a HUGE radiator.

I wouldn't try to game the system with our newer trucks.

I was able to verify this week that the Ranger performs perfectly in -40 temperatures, close to -60 with the wind chill. The engine temp comes up to normal range very quickly, much faster than my Ram 1500. Heater, including defrost setting more than adequate and it has the warmest heated seats I’ve ever had. Even my wife can’t keep them on the highest setting.
