Is this a domestic thing and a police report was not filed? If a police report was filed, you could go through your insurance and have it cover your costs to rekey.

I filed a police report after I recovered the vehicle for the exact reason you mentioned...didn't want to be implicated in any crimes or be pulled out at gunpoint. If you reported your truck stolen to the local Leo, and you self recovered it, be sure to let the reporting officer know you recovered it so they can remove it from the computer as stolen. I stopped a few "stolen vehicles" in my career that had the owner driving it, they failed to let Leo know.
I didn't think about this - good idea!Is this a domestic thing and a police report was not filed? If a police report was filed, you could go through your insurance and have it cover your costs to rekey.
After they quoted me $700 for the two keys I pretty much left in disgust. Although now that another poster has mentioned my insurance might cover it may be worth reconsidering...Did you ask how much it would be for a new steering column lock, 2 door locks an a tailgate lock replacement with 2 keys programed to match. You could throw an old key into the glovebox for the cover for the spare tire release.
