I'm big on preventative maintenance and it's time (actually well past time) to repack my wheel bearings.
I know nothing about them on my 5G Ranger, but did my 4G Ranger several times in the 13 years I owned it.
My main questions are, can they be repacked at all, or are they sealed? What differences from my 4G am I going to find when I get in there to do them?

When the bearing started howling on my 2001, I simply replaced the hub assembly ($70 CAD).

What kind of magic nutcracker is needed to pop that baby open and service it?

My 07 had a nice old fashioned tapered, inner & outer bearing. Piece of cake to service.

Ya don't pop em and you can't repack them....hub assembly is replaced. Non serviceable, and 2 wd and 4 wd are different.

Yeah..... Good luck repacking them!! That said I have yet to hear about them failing on the Ranger. I suspect they have a good life span

Sid @Msfitoy is pushing 100K and there's a few others over that. I haven't heard any of them say theirs have failed yet. Sounds like they have a pretty long life span. lol

I like making the joke about how the engineers did such a good job on the ranger that they had to f****** somewhere. That's how the oil filter got in the location it's in LOL

"Life" means life of the warranty. I discovered that in the fine print. Just like lifetime transmission fluid. Lawyers write owners manuals and warranty forms.
Hi CR,

Owner's manual are responsibility of Vehicle Engineering.... It is a Pita to review and sign off. The initial drafts are from Helm. They kitchen sink copy from other programs...so like I experienced with pages on Front Wheel Drive 4G Ranges...an animal that never existed.... Current Ranger 5G book stinks as the Program did not do a good job. Time consuming and laborious and about tier 4 in priority...

best,
Phil
