I had my transmission replaced at 59640 miles by a Ford dealer that was suppose to be great. When I got the vehicle back, they left the splash pads off the engine. When I asked about it, they lied to me and said they had no idea why they were gone now, both sides. I was provided information by a form member that the manual shows removing both sides for a transmission change. (I detailed the truck the night before I took it in, and I know they were on their and I also change my own oil so I know I have to flip the drivers side back (they are in sections) to get to the oil filter.

Now when starting the truck at times, it sounds like a start after an oil change, loud engine rattle that lasts for at least 1 minute or minute and a half with a burning oil smell in the cabin. It almost sounds like a timing chain issue. It goes away after a while. Oil level is good and oil looks clean.

Any ideas ?

This is exactly the reason I hate taking a vehicle in for any type of repair. Even if the original issue is resolved another one is created by an inattentive person who worked on it. If you ever go into the service area of a shop you will see all sort of things that have been left off and most people never realize it. Stay after them for both issues that you now have.

Yes, first time truck had seen repair, except for normal tires and such.

Yup, seems every time I bring in a vehicle something else pops up? When I do the maintenance, I won't lie, I do errors, but rarely.
Good luck.

Be firm but polite with them on this issue. Hopefully they will make it right.

I’ve had this timing chain rattle sound for years now (especially noticeable when next to a solid brick wall), and hear it more after the truck has ran a bit, sat for a few minutes, then Auto start re-starts the motor. I’ve been told it’s normal?

Does the 2.3 have cam phasers? Because that was a cause of noise in a lot in F150s and early Ranger Raptors.
