Hey folks,

Noticed a weird button today. I’m the first owner, so shouldn’t be anything after market.

It’s a 2021 Ranger Lariat Tremor.

Any clue what this does? Right next to the hood release. Red and black wire going back into the dash.

Wasn't much left of it after I found it and destroyed it. Dealer didn't want it back.

I see a mangled LiPo and LTE components - that's a full-on tracking system. And given that it's hooked into the OBD, I'm guessing it could get telemetry & remote-disable the vehicle, too?

I'm not sure I've ever looked closely/carefully at this area of my truck. I probably did but just can't remember. Now I'm not sure whether I want to take a look and risk the chance of seeing this there and getting irate or if I want to just ignore it and live in bliss with my ignorance...

Out of curiosity, I did register it, and installed the app. For a few hours I managed to explore the features. Within the app/website, it had every location I'd stopped at, including the exact route and time I had spent at that location......Must have been "full install" when it was installed by the dealer, but since I didn't opt for the "service", the device was "downgraded" to the minimal service within about 2 hours. They wanted $199 to upgrade it to the "full package (which it had to start with). I told them to &*&& themselves, and it woudl be in a million pieces in about 10 minutes! LOL
There was no remote start, just ALOT of tracking where you drove!

this one was from Guidepoint... Guidepoint Systems Consumer

There are a few reasons but the main one is that they can charge for it. The dealer wanted to send my New Lincoln through predelivery where they would install this and charge me an additional $750...I said no way as the install damages the electrical integrity of the vehicle wiring. It is installed using an Ax. Bough my Nautilus from a dealer 40 miles away to avoid having this crap installed on my Ranger and my Nautilus.. Another trick is installing Lojac. "Dealer added value"...what bs..

Best,
Phil
Most of them are a direct pass-thru from the OBD2port. You can see in my pic, the pigtails.
So it would probably not damage any electrical wiring, as the device plugs into an OBD2 port, then the regular OBD2 port plugs back into its own port.

Maybe some, but the one my local dealer installs hacks into the wiring.

Hey folks,

Noticed a weird button today. I’m the first owner, so shouldn’t be anything after market.

It’s a 2021 Ranger Lariat Tremor.

Any clue what this does? Right next to the hood release. Red and black wire going back into the dash.

I have the same truck as you… and definitely from its sloppiness, it is not factory.

Thats your dealers way of saying you owe them $1200 for an alarm system. When I bought my 2020 I told them I wanted it off and they fought me tooth and nail.

Likely they had to pay the installer again to remove it.

What did they do to restore/repair the wiring ?
I politely told them to snip the wires and cap them. I also had them repair the holes left on the plastic. Actually I wasn't anything but polite. We've had some issues before and that was the final straw.

I am first owner, no accessories. It’s a Tremor, so I have the switches on the dash for aftermarket accessories.

I did indeed push it, nothing happened that I could notice.
Whatever it is, it sure looks like 'kukai'...
