How long of a delay?
The time it takes to drop a tailgate with a damper or the time it takes without a damper? ?
I've jumped in quick and hit the key and there is less than a second delay, noticeable but nothing like a few seconds or anything. Definitely not immediate like mechanical switches where it would crank as soon as you turned the key.
I work out of my truck writing reports on a laptop so I spend quite a bit of time in accessory for the radio and the 110 outlet in the back for the charger. If the truck has been in accessory for awhile and the battery has been drawn down some there is a delay between turning the key and the truck turning over, sometimes a full second or more it feels.
When you turn the key, it communicates electronically with the truck similar to the push button type.
Notice when you engage the key and quickly release it, the truck continues through the start sequence with the key in the run position.
That would explain why you noticed the "delay".
One of the Lariats I test drove lost my interest on the first start. I pushed the start button and the engine cranked for a good 10 seconds. I have a feeling this is one of the reasons it qualified for the 60+ day rebate add-on.
It would be nice if the OP would come back and give a little more detail.
I read this post today thinking, yep this happens in mine also. And I’ve noticed what another said - that even if I let off it a split second BEFORE it actually turns over, the truck still starts. (like a push button start)
What made me come back here and comment is the very next time I fired my truck up today, I held the key turned for 2+ seconds waiting for the truck to fire up. But hey, it started. Not worried about it.
