Well on the subject of N'tl Parks - in Nov took a ride with wife over to Mesa Verde NP , we hiked some trails and visited some cliff dwellings, the park was so deserted I could swear I heard the whispers of the Anasazi - the so called ancient ones in the canyons. We saw 4 other people on our hikes.
But wait we ran into a park ranger and he corrected me - it is no longer appropriate to refer to those cliff dwelling native americans as the Anasazi, the current nomenclature is ancestral puebloans, Anasazi is now considered disrespectful to the spirits of the ancestral puebloans, according to the nice young ranger - whom I couldn't help but notice was packing a pistol and wearing a bullet proof vest.
it is rumored that they disappeared from the area centuries ago owing to high property and gasoline taxes .
