Last week I was coming back from the MN duck opener. It was raining pretty good on the way home for probably 2 of the 4 hour drive. I was towing a lightweight trailer with a very lightweight kayak on the trailer. I was using the 7 pin connector.
I started getting warnings about the lights not working and I could see in my rear view mirrors that they were not working. I got error messages about the trailer module.

Thinking it was moisture somewhere Causing the issue, I didn’t think much about it. The lights would come on and go off.

Since this trip, I have towed 3 different boat trailers and am having the same issues. Seems to be mostly the left turn signal and it is random if the lights are working or not.
Any suggestions? Has to be truck related since it has happened on 4 different trailers. And the problem exists whether I use the 7 pin connector or the. 4 pin connector.

Suggestions?

Doesn't sound like it is trailer/trailer plug related because it occurs on different trailers. Sounds like it is truck related.

I would crawl underneath the truck and make sure the round plug to connect to the trailer harness connector is clean and dry on the inside.
It also looks like the 4 pin and 7pin blinkers/brake lights are from same pins, which would explain why it does it on both.

I'm having a similar issue on 2019 Ford Ranger. My 2008 Nissan works perfectly with my travel trailer, but my Ranger sends a left trailer lamp fault message. This occurs after the the break is pressed. That is, if I plug in the 7-pin and don't hit the breaks, the left blinker light on the trailer works. If I hit the breaks (to shift out of park), the truck sends me a left lamp fault message and the blinker no longer works. Here's what I've done to try to solve the issue that has NOT worked: 1) Had the dealer install a factory brake controller. 2) Had the camper service check out the wiring on the camper and change out the tail lights, even though they couldn't find a fault anywhere on the camper. Ford service department says that the truck works on their tester. I'd read that other Fords have had this issue, dating back to 2014. Ford should have a fix by now.

Lol, the dealer turned out to be absolutely useless in this matter, and the correct solution was on the forum. Thanks, Mark W, it works for me. I rented a truck with a trailer for a week to finish moving a lot of things. Life seems easy when you organize the work correctly, all according to the instructions https://modulars.org/buying-guides/mobile-office-trailers/. But I didn't expect that my problem wouldn't be the transportation of things, but a rented car. I managed to fix everything before returning it to the owner!

Have had the left turn signal error and rapid flash indicator when pulling my utility trailer. Initially I thought it was a short in the trailer wiring, but through testing noticed a loss of connection to the left turn signal circuit can also trigger the error. Moral of story, test your trailer lights, but don't rule out a bad connection at the trailer plug like others have noted.

Did anyone actually find a solution for this? My left trailer light is not working or is really dim sometimes. Everything is wired correctly and grounded.

I keep getting the same message for my right turn signal and a rapid flashing when operating the signal but no trailer light. Connection? I read something from an F150 page about cleaning terminals and using dialectic grease. Anybody get a solution to this?
