Trail control fault: see manual...

The last couple of times I tried to engage trail control I got this message: "trail control fault: see manual"...so I pulled out the manual...but all it says is : "displays when a system fault is present, see the trail control section in your owners manual"....pages 174-175.

All the possible no-go's for trail control did not apply at the time I tried to use it:
-cruise off
-doors shut
-speed below 42 mph or stopped
-parking brake off
-I do not have pro trailer backup assist
-no CEL
-no ABS fault

What gives?...Anybody? Bueller??

Not to bump my old post but, a couple of days ago, the "trail control fault-see manual" message reappeared, this time upon starting the truck. Of course, after reading the manual, which gives no specifics or cure to the message, I went around and checked the logical possibles like fuses (check) and connections, especially the harness to the ABS pump with no change, so I have a feeling that I might need to bring it in for a reflash...anybody else experience this minor issue?

For the record, my ABS works fine (believe trail control uses ABS module)

Trouble shooting error codes and lights without ability to read them is just shooting in the dark.

Got my FORscan cable today and plugged it in...the culprit was the ABS module: error code P166B:62-0A, signal compare failure, DTC present at time of request, malfunction indicator light off for this DTC...pretty cool program! cleared the code, now we'll see if it works again

Finally got to try trailcontrol after reflashing the ABS module....great success!
