Let's hope Ford steps up and recalls all the Ranger transmissions. Sounds like less failure rate for the Toyota engines then Ranger transmissions.

However major difference is Toyota have always sold off their toughness, high build quality, and reliability. They don't want to be seen to lose that.

Whereas everyone knows that Ford whilst often featuring quite clever design at times, have always had a more laid back approach to quality, and sadly we have accepted it.

Dodge is having a bunch of engine failures in police-spec Durangos too.

Ford will likely go full Pinto...they crunched the numbers and looked at what a few lawsuits will cost and just eat the lawsuits....that is until there is something super high profile that happens.

And sadly that's not the way to do it, have they forgotten that particular lesson from the 1970's.

Yes it's kind of sad isn't it, engines got better and better for quite a while, there but lately seem to be going backwards again.

They won't. The failure rate for 10R80 trans is not as high as you think.

I'll bet the rusted frame debacle cost them more.
Toyota was giving brand new trucks, huge discounts on new trucks and then doing complete rebuilds later, which took up to a few weeks to do.

I like Tacoma's, but they are not this magical vehicle some think they are. I had more recalls on my one Tacoma than any Ford I've ever owned.

I am 4 months out of my 3 yr bumper to bumper warranty. I still have the 5 year drive train, I assume. I have been going to my normal shop for oil changes and tire rotation, cause I'm done with doing it all myself, so I will take advantage of the dealers offer to do the next one 'on the house'. I'll see how the tranny responds on my next drive back up to the mountain, and then present my results, with the TSA # for the tranny, to the dealer for opinion when I take it in for the free service.
You’re still under the 5 year / 60000 mile powertrain warranty. TSB 24-2101 is what you need to have done on your transmission. It doesn’t need to be tied to some “free” service offer. Nor does it have anything to do with a fluid change. If you’re having any kind of shift issues then get it into the dealer.
