We pulled our ’09 Coleman E1 pop-up trailer (GVWR: 3500 lbs) from Denver, CO to Buena Vista along US HWY 285. There are a couple of passes along the way, but nothing very long or steep. Pretty easy drive as far as Colorado mountains go. Towing with a ’21 Ranger XLT (Tremor, Tow Package), Draw-tite I-Command brake controller, and a 2” drop on the hitch.
Needless to say, the Ranger did great! Had no trouble keeping up with traffic on the flats and it climbed the hills like a champ. I had been towing with a ’12 Nissan Frontier, although I was always happy with its performance the comparison between the two is night and day. Particularly on the downhill sides of the hills. The truck showed 20+ MPG while towing most of the way (the Frontier could get 12 mpg with a stiff tail wind).
I have only had the truck for a month with 1500 miles on it, but each time I do something new, I like it even more!
