Torque steer gives the feeling of the steering wheel being tugged in a direction you aren't expecting.

Lane assist does the same thing.

At least that been my experience in other vehicles.
True. But ONLY on hard acceleration, and generally pulling you one way or the other while trying to go straight.

I daily a Fiesta ST. It's a relatively high horsepower, open diff'd, FWD car that I flog the snot out of. I'm well versed with torque steer.

I could see how a person without such experience might explain the sensation of lane departure assist as such. But I would want a better explanation before saying what it was.

It is Ford engineers attempt to assist the ninnies that used to drive cars that bought trucks. What they didnt envision was those ninnies having to have assist to operate a very light aluminum tailgate.

The tailgate dampener is not because the tailgate is heavy, it's so your tailgate makes a cool farting sound as it slowly goes down.

I agree. Lane assist uses a camera mounted behind the review mirror to visually "see" the lines. As long has OP wasn't drifting over them, it stays passive.
You do not have to be drifting over the lines for lane assist to move the steering wheel . If the camera can see a good line and predicts that you will cross it at your current speed and angle then it will attempt to steer . My daily ride to work is a very curvy road and I keep lane assist off due to it seeing one line well and over correcting . If you're not accustomed to it then it can very well send you over the opposite line .
