Rebuilding a 2020 XLT that had front driver damage. Removed all the damaged sections and took the truck to a local body shop for some frame work, new radiator support and paint the new hood and fender. I supplied all the new parts. Those who have followed my threads know what a nightmare it's been.
One of those parts was an undamaged rear insulator off the damaged fender. It's a plastic piece that has to be cut out using a long, flexible knife. The piece is sealed around its perimeter to the fender and inner fender at the factory. I had left it partially attached to the fender and included the fender when the vehicle was dropped off so the body shop people would know where it goes and how it attaches. Well, the idiots tossed the fender into their recycle bin with the insulator still attached. They then attached the new fender with NO insulator at all, in addition to screwing up other stuff.
They ordered a new insulator to install in the fender. Later when I go to inspect the work, there's this big, sloppy chunk of ill-fitting foam where the plastic insulator should be. They said it was what Ford sent them. I thought there must have been a mistake. Nope. It's a GENUINE Ford POS replacement part for the OEM plastic insulator.
The plastic insulator has tabs where the fender attaches. The fender is then installed, adjusted and the insulator sealed around its perimeter. The fat foamy rubber Ford replacement is just jammed in there. You can see daylight around sections of it and it's too thick at the bottom so the fender doesn't even align properly with the door. Just a total junk, $80 POS replacement for the original.
I was fortunate to find a plastic one on a 2020 at a local salvage yard. It has a broken tab but I'll clean it up, epoxy a suitable tab, install and seal it correctly.
There are people out there who don't care if their vehicle is repaired properly or with substandard parts. I am NOT one of those people.
Thanks a lot, Ford.
