The success of the next generation of Family owned small and medium size Farms depends on teaching children to love the land and cherish the lifestyle- Teach them while they are young

Nice to see good old fashion work ethics being instilled in our youth. Jeans & work boots built this country and suits have destroyed it!

I have probably mentioned before that I have 2 horses. Well, my compact manure spreader's apron chains needed work and I was having a terrible time finding someone to work on it. Finally, someone actually recommended someone local that I knew many years ago but never thought of. He brought his 2 nephews, probably 10 and 11 years old. I didn't want to hover while the fellow worked, so I went about doing my daily barn chores. I did peek out every so often and I saw he had the 2 nephews working along side him, helping to put the links together and laying the chain out and handing tools, etc.. When they were finished, I asked out much I owed, and he charged me next to nothing and I said, "are you sure, that doesn't seem like enough"... then he said (not in ear shot of the kids) just take care of the boys. Which I gladly did... they were so appreciative! So there they were learning skills and that doing work pays off!

Coming from an Ohio Valley farming family, this post warms my heart! It's nearly all gone to shit along the river, but there are still a few hold-outs.
