I was watching entertainment tonight and a door cam recorded 2 unrelated porch pirates who were fighting over a package let on a front porch, I guess it's getting rough out there

Man I really hate the commentary on this. "Oh look crime is rampant, society is a mess isn't that so funny! Lets all laugh (insert kazoo noises)." Journalists need to get the rope.

My ‘98 C2500 has been a very reliable and long lasting truck. Only my Toyota Corolla has held up better. I can only hope my Ranger joins their ranks.

After the debacle of 2008, and what GM screwed me out of, I would rather walk than own a GM.
I figure they owe me a new top of the line Vette and a new 1/2 ton pickup and that would about cover what my stock would be worth now.
GM could go under tomorrow and I wouldn't loose any sleep over it.

Thieves are the worst. Out there taking OTHER people's property instead of getting a real job. Bugs me to no end. Punishment should be much swifter and more severe than it is now. Otherwise we just encourage this behavior.

I agree with you. Doesn't matter what type of theft or what manufacture is hit by thieves. It is just wrong.

Well I think in some countries it may still be lawful to cut off a theives hand , but let's say in the US we decide to incarcerate more miscreants , a few facts :

"The U.S. has the highest incarceration rate of any independent democracy on earth — worse, every single state incarcerates more people per capita than most nations."

"Our ridiculously high incarceration rate stems largely from our nation's War on Drugs - drugs won by the way. The USA has 4.5% of the world's population but 25% of the world's prison population."

"The U.S. prison population increased 500 percent in the past 40 years. Crime rates haven't increased proportionately in that same time. Instead, the dramatic increase in prison populations can be directly tied to law and policy changes that are directly tied to the oversized role of race and racism in America. "

Recently there have been some mass releases of inmates serving time for possessing relatively small amounts of controlled substances and the prison population is comprised of about 40% of a certain race that comprises ~ 18% of the overall population.

So are you one of those mature gents pining to have a Corvette ? I live in a community comprised mostly of well to do retirees and more than a few have corvettes - mostly they stay parked in their garages but they say they always wanted one. Granted the z06 is impressive but if I sat in one it might be near impossible for me to get out of it . I'd rather have a big fat truck or actually was eyeballing the new Lexus GS550 it can tow > 9k lbs but dealers I've contacted are taking orders for delivery late in 2024 and at list price - not my style.

well I purposely kept any specific race identification out of it - but thanks for the correction and you certainly know about crime. I wasn't attempting to advocate any solution, just that incarcerating more of the population might not be the ideal solution. Looks like the native Hawiians are a pretty peaceful bunch.

I wouldn't trust the numbers on the Hawaiians. Despite being a tiny percentage of the US population they exert a huge influence on the US government. It's hard to believe but if you search government officials' and prominent figures' last names with the tag "surname origin" you'll find a disproportionate number are actually Hawaiians. They even have a huge organization called the HDL (Hawaiian Defamation League) created for the sole purpose of silencing any criticism of them.
