This was exactly my sentiments growing up in the '60's, the neighbors down the street reacted to us getting a brand new '63 County Squire with a dowdy '63 Impala wagon in baby blue. I think it was a 6 with a Powerglide and was the source of many childhood debates between us kids...lol

Our's looked exactly like this:

Good thing I bought an XLT then, I only have to suffer the disdain of Wildtrack and Raptor owners. Raptor owners I can live with, Raptors are cool. I would love a Raptor but can't justify 75K.

Wild Tracks only get roof bars, leather, body coloured bumpers, a roller shutter rear cover, and a leccy drivers seat.
None of which I need, already got a set of roof bars, have canvas seat covers, (leather too hot in summer anyway) put a bull bar on, and it's body coloured, put on a canopy over the tub (also body coloured) so don't need a roller shutter, and I'm the only one who drives it mostly, so electric driver seat not such a big advantage, so I don't care.:)

And another a willy wagtail nesting in our front garden - I used a 40 year old Tamron 500mm mirror lens for this which explains the odd out of focus areas, who says old stuff is no good!
Also I thank Pentax cameras for never changing their mounting system so I can still use all my old lenses on even their newest cameras.

And one more for the bird lovers, some swallows which made rather a mess under our verandah. ( I knocked the nest down right after the babies flew the coop).

In our family's instance it was classic childhood rivalry between us and them...we were actually the best of friends and still keep in touch to this day.

Their last names is Furuta, Brian is the same age as me and became an attorney. He owns a multi million dollar home in a very affluent section of Honolulu and drives a Porsche.

My first career was being a automotive mechanic for 14 years, then becoming a humble public servant for 28.5 years, drive a beater Honda CRV and my '20 Ranger and still live in my childhood home.

BTW, those 28.5 years was spent as a Firefighter with the Honolulu Fire Department, probably the most rewarding yet challenging career anyone could ask for, attorneys included...lol

A firefighter, I take my hat off to you sir, and thank you for your service.
As a fellow public servant working in health, I do know what it is to be working Weekends, Christmas, Easter, when your friends are off enjoying themselves, so the public can be safe, we may not make millions, but I've never really felt short of money, and I'd never rather do anything else.

If you were a good Automotive mechanic in Australia, you might have made an income to challenge your lawyer friend. Tradesmen (well good ones anyway) can make a very good living here.
Oh and by the way, very nice red Ranger! We were over in Hawaii a couple of years ago. Beautiful place, and yes we did visit Pearl Harbour.
A sobering thought all those young men lying just a few feet under the surface, they never knew what hit them.

Try some 303. It will prevent future damage when presented with similar abominations.
