Just make sure you really research it good because Florida had got really expensive over the years. I remember I wanted to retire there and had bought 4 lots there back in the mid 90's. Then they had a really bad hurricane season and that caused insurance and property taxes to spike. Plus with all the baby boomers retiring Florida has seen an influx of retirees especially ones from the east coast as it's a quick drive or flight back home to visit family.I got my Florida funeral director license a couple years ago. My dad passed away in 2021, both my wife's parents last year. We only stay here to help my mom and when she's gone we're outta here.
Mom however is determined to live forever to keep me from leaving. All the heart disease, strokes, and diabetes are on her side of the family yet she gets none of it.
My fear is with so many people moving to Florida I might not be able to afford it.
A good friend of mine recently retired there and is now kind of regretting it. He said it's not much cheaper there than it was back in MA. Sure a few things are like property tax (he had a huge house back in MA in an expensive area) and no heating bills. But everything else is the same or more especially the electricity because he now has a pool and being so hot and humid they run the ac all the time.
